geo metro transmission

i have a old 95 (manual) geo metro 1.0L i want to get bak on the road the current transsmision is missing 2nd 3rd and 5th geat. First gear hardly works, and reverse works like a champ.

Now i want to get a transmission rebuilt, and i know that ince so much iss wrong witht hat transmission it will cost a arm and a leg. However i can purchase a 92 geo metro manual transmission for 50 dollars. this transmission is out of an x girlfriends car that when we took it out it was only slipping out of second gear ( so in theory it wil be cheaper to have rebuilt.

Does anyone here know if a 92 transmission is compatable with a 95?

Sorry it took so long to notice this post, I may have been distracted by some of the other boards. I can check compatabiity at work on Mon. Who is going to fix the trans? I would have that persons view on rebuilding these, you may be better off keeping yours.

most vehicles have generations... and in that generation most parts are interchangeable...

if they are the same generation then it will probably work.

I think I'd just spend a little more money, and get one from a salvage yard, or something like that. Trying to rebuild usually isn't worth it. Who knows where the metal has gone, and what damage it has caused.

EDIT: Found some in your state, one in Greenville, for $350. Check out www.car-part.com and you can see just where they are.

I agree with DEI37. Metros and their twins are common enough, you ought to be able to find a decent tranny on the cheap. Rebuilding isn't likely to be worth the cost.

One more vote for finding a good salvaged tranny. Should be cheap enough and less hassle for you in the long run.

A good salvage place should also be able to install the transmission for a small fee. I would probably do the clutch/pilot/throwout bearing while your at it. A clutch for a geo probably doesn't cost much at all.
