Looks like it's a 350 with 4 bolt mains, 87-95. As to what it came out of, that block is a whore; Chevy used it in just about everything. So it's hard to say. Assuming it was earlier in the run (87-89 or so) it might've been from a Monte Carlo, another Camaro, a truck, a Caprice... you name it.
Is there anything specific you need to know about it? The casting number gave me some basic info, but if there's something a bit more in-depth you want to know maybe we can help you find out what you need. If I had to guess why the engine was swapped, I'd say it's likely that your car's first owner blew the first one so they just dropped in a replacement. People buy Camaros to race them and when you race a motor shit happens. So long as the new one is strong, you shouldn't have any trouble with it. Using new in a relative sense here, of course. |
Gee Martian--give me a little credit here. I'm the PM at a GM dealership and I pulled that info straight out of their parts catalog. It's originally out of a 1990 only 1500 truck of the older (classic?) body style. GM changed to a newer body style in '88 which means this motor was originally in a 1/2 ton cab & chassis config or more than likely one of the last full size Blazers.

souzafone - I missed the line at the end of your post, sorry. The rest I was just translating and adding what I could find. Not everyone can make sense of parts catalogs.

All that matters is that everyone drives home safely after all the fun's over. Looks like it'll be awhile before I'm ready to leave.
