Writing Challenge #47
Sorry for the delay ....
YOUR CHALLENGE : Write a piece in the style of your choosing from the perspective of a Welcome Mat Don't let the holidays get so busy you don't take time to breathe ... have a great week |
I always greet people with a warm "welcome"
reliable and dependant I am always there Inviting people into sanctuary a place where they feel secure and comfortable I protect everything under me even though it may be hard and callous I endure every element no matter how hot or cold for the sake of others and what thanks do i get? stepped on every day dog shit smeared in my face and discarded when the ones i have greated so faithfully want to replace me with something that "looks nicer" I can still perform my same duties despite the wear and tear to my appearance, but it matters not For I am old and unsightly and to most that is the most important. So whats the moral of the story you ask? There is none I go through live giving and serving The only highlight of my exsistance is hoping some skirt comes by so I can catch a quick piece of ass. |
It's bad enough
They walk all over me Wipe their dirt and grime and dog droppings On me -- right on me! Like I bloody well have no feelings at all! But then -- to throw me upside down! Face down! Oh, it was hilarious To see them delirious with joy When they realized "emocleW" Could be passed off for ancient Celtic To all those daft Yanks. As though that were ancient Celtic Just because I work at a cheap hotel Somewhere in Wales. Save the Wales? Ya, from themselves... ...and do hurry. Please. |
So amonkie, are you like the official "Writing Challenge" maker upper?
If so, may I suggest the Smart Bee? Could be helpful on those slow weeks when you need a spark to drop us a line. Late... |
BTW...
Most recent Smart Bee quip: If you say, "Would there were no wine" because of the drunkards, then you must say, going on by degrees, "Would there were no steel," because of the murderers, "Would there were no night," because of the thieves, "Would there were no light," because of the informers, and "Would there were no women," because of adultery. -- St. John Chrysostom: Homilies, c. 388 Cha cha cha... |
I am not acquainted with Smart Bee ... I will have to investigate this further.
As for being the maker upper ... I wanted to see them happen, and been doin them since it seemed to be the way to go at the time. Almost a year later ... they're still going ... |

Beautiful I was as I sat with my brothers and cousins
Although the odor that eminated from us was less than pleasant. But, hey! We're not made of roses, you know. Built for an important if thankless job, we wait...and wait... Until someone recognizes our strength and our aesthetics Welcoming all to a home filled with the warmth of family And, nice carpets.... So now I'm placed at the door, my texture ready for those who would approach. Give me your best shot! Your boots, your sneakers, even your spike heels! I can take it! Uh...ouch! Ok, maybe not the spike heels.... |
welcome mat
this job sucks
its true most of the year but there is that small window of opportunity come winter time for revenge freezing rain is gods gift to welcome mats followed by a plummet in temperature and i'm an ice skating rink that they just don't see i've taken out grandma she put her foot down and oops hello traction grandma mailman i'm going through these people faster than the government can hire put the mail in the box make that turn to the street and adios welcome to concrete bastard took out their kids also but thats no fun kids get over everything quickly and their friends get to sign their casts so winters creeping in and i'm beginning to smile those warm days covered with dog doo are passing by and very soon i'll be happy to say to you welcome. |
Discarded
A qiaunt little place, a cozy little nook
with ferns that surround a gently flowing brook this is my home that I cherish so dear where all of my friends are always quite near. I have grown into the earth, and been shaped by the rain my appearance is rugged and can seem quite plain. I rest on the shore of a lonely forest lake and welcome the animals that come to partake. While you may not see me in the midst of the grass discarded by owners who were callous and crass but in my solace, where i rest from my fall to this long lost oasis I welcome you all silvertiger |
