It Was Time

It Was Time

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

He stood at the end of the long hallway as she came out of the last room.
The light was dim as the morning sun hadn’t yet shone through the windows. The musty smell of the old hotel was still in the air, as it had always been every time they were there.

It's time for me to go he said, I will see you later. He looked into her eyes as he brushed her hair back from her cheek. He knew he wouldn’t be seeing here again for a while. He turned his head so she wouldn’t see the tear that was sliding down his face. He knew he had better go, so he pulled her close and kissed her on the neck. She pulled away from him, a thing he had gotten quite used to latley.

It had been a great thing they had had, so much in love with each other that they thought nothing would stop them. The good feeling they had with each other, the fun times spent together and the feeling of carefree. Somewhere, something had happened that had started pulling them apart, like they really didn’t know each other at all.The few years they had spent together were great, but it was time to move on. The last few times they had been together it seemed forced, at times the feeling of uncomfortableness almost too much to bear. What was it that seemed to be that every time they weren’t together they wanted to try just one more time?

He started to realize that they were in love with a memory. A memory of when they had first met, when it was so good. He had tried everything he could think of to bring it back, but it seemed nothing worked. It was time, he thought to try to get honest with himself and let go. It felt like the hardest thing he had ever done, but he knew he really loved her, and that truly, she wasn’t happy with him. He decided that he would do what he knew was best for him, and for her. It's time for me to go he said, I will see you later. He turned and walked away, tears now streaming down his face.

He knew that she had found the man she was in love with, and that to keep doing to her what he was doing was only hurting her. He decided it was time to be a man. He smiled for a moment as he realized he would be ok. It was just going to take some time...

She got up off the bed and walked to the door. She walked into the hall, and saw him standing there. How handsome he looked with the soft light hanging right behind him. She barley noticed the smell, the smell that used to bother her so. Right now all she coud think of was how wrong this all felt.

She stood there as he walked torward her, and she felt like running to his arms and saying everything will be good. She knew it wouldn’t, and she knew it never would. As he touched her hair, she could feel herself flinch. She wondered if he had felt it. As he put his head close to her neck, she pulled away. She knew she couldn’t do it another time. It wasn’t fair to him, or to her. She remembered him saying something, but she couldn’t make out the words.

She remembered how great it was in the beginning. He was the first man she had been with after her long marrige, how he was the first that had made her feel so special. She would always love him for that. Somehow, something changed one day. It had never been the same since then, although she tried and tried, she just couldn’t get the feeling back. The last few times they had been together it seemed akward, like they both knew there was nothing there and they were trying to revive it. She knew now that it was really over. She just wondered why it had to be this way.

She started to understand now that she was looking for the feeling they had together when they first met, and pushing with every thing they had wouldn’t get it back. She remembered her Dad, and how he used to say sometimes you need to quit kicking a dead horse.
She knew that she wasn’t really in love with him anymore, and she needed to move on for herself, and for him.

As he turned to walk away, she knew he would be ok. It would just take some time...She was thankful for the time they had, and that she had gotten to know him.

The man that she had been looking for all her life was waiting for her. She was in love, and he made her happy. She wanted to spend her life with him, and she knew it was right. She smiled as she thought of how she felt with him. She couldn’t wait to see him again and hold him in her arms. Somehow, she knew that she was home.
