Poem for Memorial Day
 

You were there for us in our time of need
You performed for our country,
the greatest of deeds;
You dedicated your heart
You dedicated your soul
You dedicated your will, your strength, your faith,
and it never once grew old.
You knew what had to be done;
There were no questions to be asked.
You knew that moment with your family
could very well be your last.

You fought next to your friends
You fought next to your family
You saw them die at the enemy's hands.
Still you fought, as brave as could be.
I hope you all know
just how much you mean to me.

And so brave soldier
I see your flag
Draped as a final curtain
covering the window of your mothers eyes
filled with tears
And so brave soldier
we stand with you
taking this day, this moment
to remember what we have lost with you
and shed our own tears
