Lyrics: I Dont Dance
I have never, ever written lyrics for my songs. All of our band's stuff is strictly instrumental, but even in my own stuff I never found the inspiration to write lyrics. I noticed however, that I always loved songs that told stories, and one day I came up with a tale to tell. It suited a tune I was tinkering with, so I did my best at turning it into a song.
I use the term lyrics loosely, as in the song itself, these words are actually spoken like a monologue over the verses. There is no 'chorus' as far as the words are concerned. It does tell a story, but I'd like to think I've done it in such a way that one can draw thier own idea from it... what story does my song tell you? I'd be very interested to hear what you draw from this, my only ever song lyrics. "I Don't Dance" Wake up alone, clock batteries have died in the night. Dunno what time it is. Dunno what day it is. Don't care. Fall out of bed, can't see across the room, stood on a staple but only noticed while trying to put on socks. Blurred and deformed, crawl to unknown destination, arrive with tired knees and mind in tatters. Can't think an inch in front of my own face, may have misplaced that book, may have phoned him yesterday, may have sold my soul. Heart pumps motor oil, twice as slow today than any other. Skin shines. Mood doesn't. Recover wallet, order coffee. Waitresses smile reminds of something distant. Find myself in the company of others. Recall the names of three. Can't speak anyway. Sit in the sun and bake quietly with myself, fail to gather my daylight hours into a ball for contemplation. Wandering the street in no particular direction. Friend passes me, stranger passes me, accomplice passes me. Can't watch anything while sleeping. Sit and talk on my own to the girl in the corner. She doesn't look at anyone but the face her hands. She might have told me why but I can't recall. Had plans, knew what I liked, believed what I heard and she said to me: "I don't dance". They say life has a way of making the things you don't have into the things that you need most. Days when the sun stumbles across the sky. Days when my mind has to catch up to the rest of me. Days when lunch is the spilt milk on the table from lunch yesterday. Wish this was one of those days.

I really get a feeling of half hazy foggy brain that never quite clears as the day goes on - I think so many days we all just operate in sort of a autopilot mode - I'd be interested to hear what kind of instrumentals you were thinking of laying this over Thanks for sharing!
