A day in the life of a spaceship...

19 april 2110

Ahh its been one of those days again. Ya know.. one of THOSE days. When you wake up
and before you even get a chance to think about how good OR bad the day is going to be,
its already feeling bad... and then something bad happens and you think, damn this day
is going to be bad. Yea, its one of THOSE days.

It started ok. I woke up the kitchen shift. Poor buggers. Getting up early each day
to make sure that the food from hydroponics gets through the maglev tubes without being
smashed, and then cooking it and then serving it out to the multitude of characters
onboard. With a general population of around 1000, thats a lot of hard work.

See though, thats where my day was starting to go bad. One of the maglev tubes had an air
leak that i didnt find out about until a load was already accellerating, and the
consequence was obvious... ripped of cargo container which then got snapped up by the
maglev field, slide sideways and ripped a bloody big hole in the maglev tube, and in the
process severing a couple of superconductors, a plasma line, and a sewerage line. The
maintenance team is still trying to clean that mess up. I am thinking that the air leak
was from one of the air locks at the human end of the tube, probably a rock or something
small letting air in. Damn it made a mess.

It also made the kitchen staff that much more irratible.. One load of food destroyed,
and the replacement container having to be shipped freespace from one of the other
tubes, which took about 30 mins. It wasnt good.

After that mess, and as i was shutting down the power to the tube, i got hit by the good
ol annoyance of outspace living... a micro meteroid shower. Normally it wouldnt worry
me, the crystal lattice armour really did its job well. Except this particular shower
was pieces of diamond! Probably from some messed up solar process, but yea it made a
mess, lucky it was localised, and the humans managed to get inside before the air
pressure reduced to much. A couple of kilometres of ring are now all pockmarked.
Outer and Inner space repair team arent happy either. Thats a lot of holes to be fixed.

So after THAT, i settled down into my normal procedure of examining stars, cracking
mathematic problems and general cpu allocation procedures when... yes there is more...
a fusion generator lost uniformity and managed to leak a few grams of plasma. And since
the only thing around a fusion generator is superstructure, a nice medium to hot well
done plasma flare sliced off a cooling tower and consequently the now leaking tokamak
overheated and spectacularily exploded, depriving the station of about 10 percent of its
power. Sure, there is a 36 percent surplass but i was kinda hoping to keep all 10 of my
tokamaks. They only last about 50 years, and i am not due for new ones for a few years
yet. At least those damn timebombs are a couple of hundred kilometres along axis, and no
other damage was done.

So i settled back down again, to think that there could be nothing TO go wrong if it
wanted to, but..those damn pesky humans. Some poor miner from the asteroid belt copped
a rock right up his clacker, and his fusion engine misfired, and managed to burn a hole
through one of my landing decks, and not suprisingly caused a full maintenance level
to lose air pressure. Luckily it wasnt occupied.

So after THAT was taken care of, i stopped and waited for the next disaster.... i was
thinking what ELSE could go wrong and well... yea. Rogue nanoreplicator in the biomass
converter and reformer caused a perfectly good load of sewerage get turn into a kind of
rock like substance that consequently blocked up a entire sewarage treatment facility.
Damn nanomachines are a menace. Thats the 2nd time that has happened. At least this
time they could be shut down, last time they didnt shut down at all and turned the
biomass into a steaming soup of acid that proceeded to kill them all. Stupid little
machines.
It was lunch time before everything was either fixed or at least reported.
Holes sealed, decks welded, nanomachines doing their job.

And of course, lunch time would be when the last and the biggest of the micrometeriods
hammered straight into the control stem. Quite a tasty little hole that basically
trapped the human controllers in the control bridge for an hour until it could be patched
and the control lines that it cut were reconnected.

The maintenance crew submitted a pay rise request... i forwarded it onto the boss,
nothing heard back... probably still trying to defrost his fingers from when he got
them stuck to a heat pump on control deck echo. I warned him. It was kinda funny though
and he laughed his head off... all funny until the cold set in.. i could go on and on
about the boss. He is a great boss, and we have shared a lot of good and bad times.

Anyways, it was actual calm for a couple of hours in the afternoon.
I went and found another worm hole, and if it proves stable, it might be able to cut a
few months of the trip from the beta1 asteroid mining facility.

But, it wasnt all smooth sailing, because just as the evening meal tone was broadcasted
i had a investation of carbon viruses in my secondary databank... ahh what an incredible
migraine.. now i know what humans mean when pain kills..

ahh the trials and tribulations of being a space ship AI...

oh great... we have some ebuatin ambassadors requestion docking on bay 5....

if the humans think they can throw a party... lets just wait to see what these guys
can do...

i think i will call the cleanup crew right about now......those damn aliens can drink
more alcohol then a subspace booster.... dammit!
