My commencement speech...if I were to give one
Congratulations to the graduates. It took some of you 4 years, others 5, 6, or 7 to get here, but you made it nonetheless. The parties are over. You think they aren't, but don't be fooled. The real world looms at your doorstep. You will submit. For some of you there will be success, make no mistake, but for others...well it's a sordid voyage you will be embarking upon.
Some of you will end up with low paying, dead-end jobs and you will be stuck there. Don't bother looking around, even those of you with great ambitions will be crushed by the working world. Others will end up with middle management positions and wonder when your break will come. Don't waste your time wondering, your break will never come. Then there will be the successful people. It could be the guy with the 2.0 GPA that ends up as the most powerful CEO on the planet. The girl that did everyone and got herpes could be your company president. Be prepared to swallow that pill. The bottom line is the fun is over. You will get married, you will be saddled with debt, you will have kids that do the things you did. Real life is a harsh mistress. Don't get me wrong, it's not all bad, but no one talks about the bad stuff. I once thought I could make a difference, what a fool I was. My high ideals were crushed by every corporate machine I encountered. Political, business, personal...all squashed by reality. If you have a dream, pursue it to the fullest, but don't be surprised when a 1000 pound weight falls from the sky and squashes you like a bug. Regardless of the cards you're dealt, play the hand you have, trade in some cards if you need to, but play like you're holding a royal flush and try not to let the sons of bitches in the world play you for a fool. One last thought...if you do nothing else, get drunk once in a while, even when you're older. It helps. |
Hmmmm.... now I know why I am glad I did'nt go to college
pretty good, havent seen you around here for a while. Thanks |
Thanks, feeling pretty jaded by the world...this helped.
|
Me too.... Jaded, that sounds like a good word for a poem..
Keep smiling, good advice, sometimes hard to take |
ouch.
the honesty above hurt me. graduates, don't commit suicide :P ;) i am glad you went with it, batman. |
Sometimes reality is painful, Z, as you already know.
|
yes sir, I know only too well.:)
but i know until I die there is hope, even if only a drop next to an ocean. you should write more! |
True- the worst part is realizing that you'r bosses realy are morons, coupled with the fact that your brains and ingenuity do not matter
|
ouch, in some ways, I can already sense the truth to that, but I am still holding on to hope.
Although I am the guy with the 2.0 GPA |
Well, Greg700, I hope you do well. Hold on to the hope as long as you can, but be wary.
|
With College graduations coming up I thought I'd revive this.....*bump*
