Cast or Casted?

ok im having an internal fight with myself right now.

if i cast concrete last week...

was concrete cast last week?

or

was concrete casted last week?

when it's said verbally, i usually say ' the concrete was cast last week..." irresepective of the spelling

so what's the right way to say and spell it?

i know its something small but its eating away at me

It's cast.

According to the OED, casted was an earlier form of cast. It certainly isn't used today. I've never seen it.

Quote:
1599 Shakespeare. Henry V, iv. i. 23: With casted slough, and fresh legeritie.
It's one of those words whose present tense matches the past tense.

thanks BG

since OED is for subscribers only, i wont be subscribing.

where can i find more info on ths past tense=present tense?

in this part of the world the word casted is used more times than i'd like. it really irks me when the minutes of meeting i typed up get amended from 'cast' to 'casted'.

There's not much else to say about the tense forms other than the now obsolete casted has a known use that dates back to the late 16th century.

If anyone asks you, just tell them it's obsolete.

The "Obs" is an abbreviation of "obsolete."

Other than for the sake of an interesting discussion, why not just say "The concrete was poured last week?" which avoids the whole cast/casted question.

see, you're The_Guru! I knew you'd come through!

lindy, sometimes we do use the word 'pour'. but in the minutes of meeting i used 'cast' this time. it really confused me when the MOM came back all miscorrected (is that a word BG?) with the word 'casted' instead. i didnt think i was that illiterate, so it was a 'am i wrong or am i right' tussle with my inner self.

Miscorrection is a word, according to the OED. However, miscorrected doesn't appear. This means that the OED recognizes it as a noun, but not a verb. So you would be safer to recast the phrase as:
It really confused me when the MOM came back with the miscorrection of "casted" replacing "cast."
Miscorrection is also a mass noun, so no pluralization is required.
