The Girl.
 

She hadn't been quite the same,
since her mother died.
She was stuck by herself,
unable to cross to the other side.

All she wanted in the world,
was for certain people to talk to her.
She didn't know what kind of people they were,
she just knew they were popular.

She was in, they promised, if she did one task.
A smile curled at her lips,
Just cross the catwalk under the bridge,
but it was icy.....she slipped.

To no one's surprise,
they didn't follow her.
They just turned and ran,
and let the river swallow her.

She washed up downstream.
and through the cold December sleet,
She could make out a dark figure,
standing at her feet.

He lifted her up off the ground,
and carried her into the night.
Yet even though it was very late,
they were walking towards a light.

"Who are you," she said,
as she parted her hair so he could see her.
"We don't have names," he said,
"and we don't have wings either."
