manscaping

I think manscaping means grooming male hair not on the head. I want to know who does it, and what everyone thinks of it.

Personally, I hate it. I hate it because it seems to have become fasionable to have no hair at all. My hair comes in thick all over. I shave my back (back comes in thin, few hairs, 1" long, very bizzare looking). I use an electric razor on my chest, but not to skin, like a 3/8" blade; when my hair gets long it itches a lot. I would have a unibrow if I didnt touch it up when I shave.

The only bodily hair that gets dealt with is the eyebrow when the unibrow forms, my lip fuzz and any part of me that gets tattooed.

I suppose the lower regions too if I ever deem it necessary.

As for what I think of it. Do whatever makes you feel happy. It's just hair. It grows back.

I'm an extremely hairy guy and lately I've taken to trimming most areas (I've got hair pretty much everywhere) with a small pair of scissors. I refuse to start shaving areas - I think the sight of stubble would be more frightening than honest to goodness hair. I am what I am, but while I used to look more like an animal, trimming gives my body a much better look.

My back isn't quite a carpet (knock on wood 'cause it probably will as I get older), more like a few patches, but I trim off what I can reach. I also keep chest and belly trimmed. Nether regions always feel better when kept short, especially in periods when I'm cycling a lot. Keeps the chaffing down.

Wow I feel like I'm participating in an exhibition thread.

Bottom line is I refuse to shave, because I think it would require too much maintenace, like conditioning the skin against ingrown hairs, and I think eventual stubble would be unsightly and itchy. And as I said before, I wouldn't want to live in denial of being one of the proud hairy ones.

Shaving is a lot less work than manually trimming, really. Case in point, I shave my shoulders and upper arms every few days - it takes 2 minutes, tops. If I tried to trim that with scissors, it would be a lot more painstaking. Also, electric trimmers are good - those with adjustable attachments of 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 inches - if you don't want to go right down to the skin (like on the chest or legs) you can just trim use the electric trimmers every couple of weeks to eliminate the carpet look without getting to the pre-pubescent look you get from completely shaving all body hair.

I noticed that my abs and chest looked a lot more musculer after I removed about 1.5" of hair covering them. I shaved my chest once and it had a rubbery feel to it, and then started itching like crazy about a week later (only itched with a shirt on).

I used to find trimming/shaving to be a strange idea, but after losing around 60-70 pounds last year, I decided to give it a try.

Basically, I shaved anywhere that I have tattoos, or that I thought hair would look unattractive (back/shoulders/certain areas of the nether regions) then used electric trimmers to SLIGHTLY trim everything else. I went short enough to thin things out (I'm part Italian and being hairy as a motherfucker runs in my blood) but not short enough to look obvious (I find it strange on non-built guys when their arms/legs look like they've got a buzzcut). I left my forearms and lower legs alone, as the hair there is (ironically) the thinnest on my body.

Overall, I like the look, but it can mean a lot of maintenance.
