What do you buy YOUR sweetie?

What a weekend.

I was feeling pretty sorry for my wife, seeing as how the new kid makes it impossible for her to sleep for any more than 2 consecutive hours at a time, and the old kid is demanding 300% of her attention. So tried to do whatever I could to make her happy.

I won't bore you with the details, but my wife's happiness neccessitated the purchase of a new BB gun, a chainsaw and a yard of shreaded cedar chips.

This is a woman who got a laser level for Mothers Day and a Sawzall for Christmas.

So what strange stuff do you buy YOUR sweetie to make her/him happy?

I know this isn't what you are asking, but a nicer thing you could have done would be to try taking care of the new kid yourself once and awhile. Unless its hungry, and your wife breast-feeds, you can do everything to get the baby back to sleep as she can.

/my 2 cents

Now to what you are asking. I buy her what she wants. If she sees something in a store she likes, Ill go out later and buy it for her.

Sending flowers to the workplace works for me. I've found that (most) women like the special attention that flowers get them at their job.

I give her my love.

And if/when it comes to the point where a baby is disrupting sleep or she's had a bad day at work or something....I will still simply give her my love...and do whatever else I can to help out such as sharing the responsibilities with the baby.

We don't place much value on material things like jewelry or flowers - not that they're not nice at times, but they're not really a good, lasting cure for anything.

She's not into jewelry or flowers. So I give her some cash and let her buy some clothes while I take care of the kids. She appreciates that much more than some trinket.

my wife.. she don't like those girlie type things nor those home depot type stuff either...

so it's a bit difficult sometimes to find things for her... but when I do. it gives her a great grin!

I am constantly reminded of the time I bought my wife a shop vac for her birthday some 10 years ago. Now, at the time I gave her some other fine birthday gifts, jewelry and such, but we needed (OK, I needed) a shop vac, so I wrapped it and put a bow on it. Not sure she appreciated the humor.

I bought her a Delta scroll saw one Christmas. Hey, she wanted to do some wood crafts and I pointed out that she would need a scroll saw to make them. I wasn't thinking of the great addition it would make to my wood shop. Really, I wasn't.

This last Christmas I bought her a fancy sewing machine, which she had asked for. And I once surprised her with a new PT Cruiser on Valentines day. So it's not as if I always shop for her at Home Depot. But no matter what , I will never live down the other gifts.

The missus isn't very demanding of physical objects, unless something on her computer breaks, so I 'buy' her an extra hour of sleep in the morning; i.e. I get up with the boyo, and get him changed and fed, and don't bounce her outta bed until I have her morning caffiene ready. Sometimes even on her mornings that she's s'posed to get up.

Er...um...great suggestion...except for the fact that I do that a lot already, and she IS breast feeding...and she really wanted some large scale projects done...and wanted the 3-year old out of her hair...which I took care of.

I didn't mention that I USED the chainsaw to attack portions of our back-yard that were causing my wife grief. The mulch was for the front yard.

C'mon. Give me a little credit. I juggled a 3-year old boy and large scale landscaping projects with ZERO trips to the hospital.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. The first post you made sounded like you made her do all the work with the kids, and you were just trying to give something to her to make her feel good.

Typically, guys buy these for themselves, and not for thier mates.

Your post just sounded strange when I read it. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Hmmm...maybe I can rent her out.

She wanted to reclaim her birdfeeder from the starlings, but needed something that wouldn't blo holes in the neighbor's houses if she were to (gasp) miss.

Hey, shokan, no worries. I was just laughing to myself about the odd assortment of things I bought in the name of my wife's happiness. I didn't tell you that I was using a lot of it over the weekend.

After reading the replies in this thread, I guess the gifts weren't odd afterall. The important thing is the keep your sweeties happy.

Wednesday is our 10th Wedding Anniversary so this weekend I surprised my wife.

I had my Mom take the kids. I booked us a room at a very nice hotel. Took my wife to dinner. Designed a new ring and had it made from the one I gave her when we were first married (it had broken and was waiting to be fixed)...

The next day we lounged in bed (a big luxury for us 8 year old and a 7 month old), went for brunch and then I took her shopping (she needed some new post pregnancy clothes and shoes).

It was the best weekend and more importantly she had a great time...
