Back Home
I recently returned from a 4 and a half month itinerary, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Singapore, Australia, Hong Kong. I went with a good mate and a budget of around £4500 including flights. I decided to go after choosing to take a gap year before heading onto university. It was, without a doubt, the best thing i've ever done.
Anyways, the point of this post, if anyone finds theirself in the same situation come this september or whenever your educational year starts, seriously consider it. I recommend it to anyone and everyone. Its alot easier to do than you initially believe and you cant beat watching lightning arc from one storm cloud to another from your sunset beach bungalow whilst you try and open a coconut. With a large Chang of course. |
Did you keep a diary ? or travel report ?
stories to tell ? |
yeah but not everyone has that amount of money spare :(
How safe was Cambodia? What were the ladies like in Vietnam? - I'm asking because I've dated one Vietnamese lady living in the UK, the most beautiful looking oriental ever with the shyest, sweetest and most gentle nature of all time. Was she a one off? :) Come on 4 1/2 months and all you can say is lightning while trying to open a coconut, tell us more than this :D |

Untill my trip away that is. And how wrong I was. Its funny though, as I should probably be able to fill you in on the little differences between thai, vietnamese, cambodian, hong kong women etc. But to be honest, they're all great and pretty damn near perfect. Cambodia seemed safer than we'd been told to expect. Obviously you've got to stay cautious, and travelling with a tour guide is a must in my opinion. Its a beautiful country none the less, and if you ever get a chance to go, sample the deep-fried spiders in Skuon, central Cambodia. With a pinch of salt, you'd be suprised at how tasty those fuckers can be. Funny how in the last weeks of the whole experience I couldn't wait to get home just to tell my tales, but its so damn hard because you dont know whether to start with the fried scorpions in Chiang Mai, or the week we were offered accomodation in a Hong Kong brothel. Or maybe I could always begin with the grenade launching range just outside of Hanoi and end with the local doctor in Surin who sorted us out with the most potent sativa i've ever smoked. There's hundreds of stories to tell, some i've probably forgot. This is the reason why I start with something basic. In this case, the cool thunderstorm we witnessed whilst sippin' bang shakes. |
I remember the lightning. It doesn't make a sound, but it lights up the whole sky, and for a split second all the cumulus clouds look like silver mountains hanging in space. While I drank Singha on the beach with a hot German schoolteacher. Memories...
