Workout help

I just started a job working 3rd shift (11pm-7am) and since i started that my workouts have been more difficut because im used to going early in the morning when i wake up(i.e 9am or so) but now when i get home at 730 i go to sleep and go work out when i get up at 1 or 2 but i seem to not have the same energy...im getting the same amount of sleep i usually do but its just at a different time, could there be any reason because i dont sleep at normal times that my body has less energy

also is there any suggestions for ideas to make my workouts bettter considering my situation

any help would be great

I would add blackout curtains to your bedroom and perhaps a fan to block out noise. I worked a 3rd shoft years ago and sound sleep was my biggest problem. That, coupled with trying to sleep at night on the weekends and then reversing again. It's almost better to live your life on 3rd shift rather than just when you are woking.

Getting good rest sure can make working out better, regardless of the time. You'll probably get back into the swing after you get used to the different sleep cycle. Might even talk to a Dr.

I worked 3rd shift for a few years, and remembered how hard it was to get decent sleep. I put black trash bags over the windows, and routinely slept with earplugs. Once I would wind down, it seems everybody was waking up.

The body uses sunlight to reset its internal clock (studies have shown that when placed in a room without sunlight for an extended period of time, the test subject’s internal clocks shifted), so blocking out the sunlight is a big priority.

What time is your gym open? If it is one of those 24-hour gyms, workout before you go to work. If not, you might have to consider shifting your sleep schedule around to permit you to workout after work (I know it is tough, I’ve been there).

The hardest part about working 3rd shift it getting your body used to the different routine. This takes a little bit. Like thingstodo stated, it is better to live in 3rd shift than “going to normal” during the weekend & trying to get readjusted during the week. Once your body gets used to doing what it needs to do to survive on the new schedule, you should start feeling more energy during your workouts.

thanks for the suggestions, this week has been a little better but one of the problems i have with sleeping is that i live about 100feet from a very active train tracks with very active train horns...but ive been managing, my gym is 24 hours as well and i thought about working out before work but my job requires me to be not sore of tired(like what you feel after working out) because i have to be alert and able to deal with possible physical confrontations

but i think i'll keep going how ive been going this week and see how it goes,

I used to work out at like 6am after working 9pm-5am, and then go to sleep, would that be possible for you? It's the only time I ever really felt good working out that early, btw.
