Going to Guadalajara
In late November I will be taking a trip to Guadalajara, Mexico, to coincide with the National Tequila Festival. I'll be there four nights and five days, though I'll probably spend one day & night in Tequila.
I've looked in to booking rooms and have narrowed it down to two places: Hotel El Tapatio and the Fenix Hotel. Both run about $65/night. Fenix is downtown, and El Tapatio is on a hillside overlooking the city. We're planning on renting a car for about $20/day. So I ask, have any of you been to Guadalajara, and have you heard of these hotels? Could you recommend another hotel in this price range or cheaper? Also, what MUST I see while I'm there? Do you have any warnings or recommendations for me? Most of all, has anyone actually been to Tequila during the festival? Thanks!

My friend was actually shot and killed outside of a night club last April in Guadalajara. the most unexpected and saddest thing I have ever encountered. Not to scare you, but like anywhere is Mexico it is a dangerous place. Just be very aware of your surroundings at all times. The drug world out there is crazy, and people pull out guns anywhere and everywhere. Be safe and have fun...
