Going to Costa Rica - any advice?
I'm off to Costa Rica on a 5-week Turtle Conservation trip in early June. Does anyone have any country-specific advice? Seeing as I've travelled before I know about things like insurance, locking your backpack/taking a moneybelt and taking antimalaria tabs but I've never been to central America before. I don't plan on travelling outside the project due to time/money limitations and I'm going to try to learn some Spanish before I go.
Thanks in advance!

I'm actually moving to CR in a few weeks. Uvita on the pacific coast. My sister & her husbands & kids are going, I'm just tagging along. Never been myself, but from what they've described, it's heaven. Just can't wait for them to get their house sold & get moving.

I've been and it is a very beautiful country. I only went to surf so I don't have a whole lot of advice outside of surfing. Just have respect in whatever you do. Don't litter, don't be an asshole, don't be that loud American tourist that everyone hates.
And use common sense. Don't leave valuables out in the open. If you are renting a car, don't leave anything valuable inside unless it is in the trunk. Don't drink the water... Umm.. oh yeah, you MUST find and eat a Trit. It is THE best ice cream sandwich type thing I have ever had, bar none. They are fucking GOOD. |
