Pain in front of neck???
Thanks for reading this first of all. Here's my problem: I did about thirty minutes of yoga and then did 30 crunches. When I sat up I noticed a pain in the right side of my neck. It hurts sharply when I swallow and my neck feels really tight and dull almost up to my jaw, almost numb in a way. I'm also having some tingly pain in a certain spot in my shoulder. It does not feel like a pulled muscle. Something about it is giving me a creepy feeling but I have no idea what it could be.
I have been worried about my heart lately because a few months back I almost passed out from lifting weights, which I hadn't done in a while and haven't done since. I definitely have to see a doctor soon, but I guess I'm scared he's going to tell me I'm going to die or something. I seriously get panic attacks when I get focused on my health, ever since the weightlifting incident. So I guess I'm hoping that someone can tell me not to freak out tonight, or offer some thoughts on what I'm going through. Thanks for your help. |
Hmmmm... that's strange man. I'd definitely go to a doctor if it hurts to swallow.
I would think it was just muscle soreness from clenching your neck muscles during the crunches, but if it hurts to swallow- I have no idea... |
I did that once, simply turning my head as a passenger in a car when the driver made an evasive move. I swear I thought I was either going to die or be paralyzed. We pulled off at the next exit and found the first drugstore possible. They suggested anti-inflammitories and numbing cough drops. I think it took a day or two to return to normal. I hope it is the same thing that happened to you.
(I am not a doctor, this is not medical advice.) |
sounds like a pulled or strained mucle to me.

Well, it's the next day and the pain went away, but it still feels dull and achy in my neck up to my jaw. I think you guys are right, its probably nothing to worry about, pulled muscle or something.
I think my main issue is thinking that I'm dieing everytime something stupid happens. I was probably overreacting again, but I'm so glad that you all gave me some advice. |
Oh good, you are still alive.

Is that bad?? |
maybe a massage would be good...YOu probably strained something, and the aching might be spasmed muscles? Just a suggestion.
And I love chiropractors, the one at my school is like a mix of a physical therapist and a chiropractor so he knows a lot of exercises. |

But seriously. Go to a doc and do a general health check-up. Either nothing's wrong with you, or there's something that can be fixed, or you have six months left to live so you'd better book that trip around the world now. Worrying about your health like that can make you sick! :icare: |

I'm going to go against the grain here. Pain in the Jaw and neck, especially with tingling in your shoulder could very possibly be your heart. That's a classic sign of angina, or 'heart pain' as it's often called. Not everyone feels pain directly in their chest, but they feel it elsewhere, the left arm being most common and it generally radiates up to the neck and jaw.
I'm not saying that's your problem, but if it happens when you exercise, you definitely should get it checked out. You're pretty young to be having heart problems, especially if you exercise regularly, but sometimes people ignore these things, equating them to a muscle or nerve and it turns out much worse. Go to the doctor. |
