I just got some nice dress shirts from Express that are stretch cotton, but they need some ironing before wearing. How should I iron them so I don't ruin them?
Thanks!

I also like their shirts. The stretch stuff can not only be tricky, but massively time consuming. It takes me 30 minutes to do 4 shirts.
Low heat, high steam. The stretchability of the shirt could die if you use too much heat. |

What are some good publications to take a look at to check up on good current style trends? Not necessarily mainstream commercial magazines (GQ), but good magazines with educational articles on current fashion, catalogues, fora etc. I'd like to learn to develop an eye for this stuff.

I can pull off a suit with no tie. I've contemplated a pleated tuxedo shirt with French cuffs and a spread collar and no tie under the suit. I have no problem with avant garde, but would I be going way over the line to actually try it?

So I bought my first suit some weeks ago. Black pinstriped. I am teh hotness in it.
I have a formal party engagement on the 26th atop of the Odyssey II yacht on Lake Michigan due to my company's 20th anniversary. Will post pics then. ![]()

I need a jacket to go clubbing in, but not one that costs 600$. Here's what I'm going for (fitted and casual):

Are burgundy loafers a good choice to wear with khakis? If so, should I match my socks to the pants or the shoes?

Soma:

Update, I've taken all the advice on board and have had new glasses and sunglasses made, have new shoes, a couple new suits, a half-dozen new shirts and a thin leather All-Ett wallet on the way. I've also bought a Jaguar but that's perhaps a separate story.
![]() Next item on the agenda: belts. I have basically worn the same black leather belt with a standard buckle for 4-5 years and it is pretty worn. Anything to know about them other than to match the colour and texture to your shoes, and to match the buckle with any jewellery / watch? Or is it acceptable to be more adventurous with styling? |

That depends, really. When I'm going dress, the wallet, watch, shoes, and belt all basically match, especially the belt and shoes. Casual? I'll mix it up a bit. I still don't like black/brown leather combo, but there are a lot of options when you're casual. Brown flip flops and a tan fabric belt. White leather tennis shoes and light brown leather. Black boots and no belt.

Are there any guidelines for the different types of buckle? I'm mainly referring to the one which is like a tang-style buckle on a watch strap, and the one which has a stud at the end of a rectangular block which you press down into a hole in the belt. I'm not keen on the huge novelty buckles but I do kind of dig a nice simple rectangular buckle with a brushed finish.

Cool, looks like the rules are pretty relaxed on belts. I'll keep an eye out for stuff that's on sale on the high street. eBay hasn't turned up anything particularly special - there is quite a cool Oakley one which I think might match a couple of my watches quite well.
Thanks as always for your input. |
