just had my most humiliating incident

Sat. morning ck and m2 and I decide to rent little scooters at the beach. I have never been on one in my life, but I am always up for something new. How big of a mistake this was...we found out about 5 minutes into the trip. I was making a turn and turning the throttle at the same time...and realized I was going to hit someones parked car. So I aimed for their driveway..well, that didn't work either..I sideswiped the car and knocked the passenger side mirror off while careening at what had to be 30 mph towards a concrete table...at this point I am completely freaking out and am hitting the brake and the throttle at the same time. Thankfully, I manage to avoid a huge bed of aloe and plow into a HUGE bouganvilla. The homeowner saw the whole thing and came running out to help me..he had to pull me out of the bush...and then turn off the scooter..and ck helped him pull it out.
It honestly was one of the most humiliating moments of my life..yet the funniest..we all just stood there laughing...the guy was cool as hell..the accident could have been so much worse. He just took $100 to replace the mirror I broke and said the next time I am in town to come hang and bring some beer. The scooter itself was undamaged(thank God).
so, my injuries...the entire left side of my body is scratched all to hell from the thorns...my elbow and knee are swollen and black...I think i broke my left pointer..it is swollen and black...a couple burns from the muffler...and huge bruise on my leg..and took some skin and nail off my toe..it hurts like crazy, but I am thanking God it is not worse. I just wish we had had a camera..we could be hundred thousand-aires....

Dayam, that looks like it really hurts. Next time you'll at least wear shoes, right? Thank god you'll be okay, and you really didn't do too much damage.

Ouch. At least the guy was cool about his car. If that was me, I'd have probably been pissed.

OOF! Nice job on the toe. Be glad you were on a little scooter instead of a big, fast motorcycle.

If you crashed into the aloe, your wounds would have been instantly treated.

That's just what I was thinking...

Glad to hear it wasn't anything worse and that you're OK.

lol..that is what I said..but since aloe is like a cactus...it would have been much more painful..and there was a huuuuge tree stump to hit in there too...I would have gone over the handle bars instead of into the not so soft cushion of a thorny vine...the plant itself was about 10ft tall and 6 feet deep..and I was inside..having to get pulled out was rather amusing..as was the scooter inside it..

Yeah, that toe definitely looks ouchy...I wonder if a guy had done the same thing if he would have been so cool about it (assuming you're a female from the nail polish, and shaved legs).
Nice Flor-de-lis tatoo...Only spelled right...

ouch!

well if it makes you feel any better, I did something loosely similar (though not nearly as bad) the first time I rode a scooter. Same problem: I was pulling the brake handle but not letting up on the throttle with my palm! Ever since then I've always made it a huge point of telling people about to ride a scooter for the first time to watch out for that. They seriously need to teach that in drivers ed or something. When you're used to riding a bike for so long it doesn't occur to you that when you brake you need to let up on the rotation of the handle!

I'm with you on this one, Medusa. Ick. Glad it wasn't any worse though...I know people who have been killed on scooters...and ya know, if you were killed then you couldn't post it on here as a funny story.
I hope you heal quickly. My thoughts are with you.

Yeesh. I did that once too - tho not so spectacularly!! I still have a scar on my leg from the muffler burn.
May your toes and bits and pieces heal quickly.
