Denial of Admission
 

Okay so I am in college right now and was doing fine and dandy but didn't like the entire situation I'm in so I considered transferring to another school. I just found out though that I am not being accepted for transfer because my High School Grades were unacceptable and because I haven't had a full year of college yet they said they can't let me in at this point. The thing is when I applied they allow for an explanation or any special circumstances and I didn't put anything in foolishly enough. I feel that during my high school time I was both screwed in a couple situations and just not taking advanatage of my potential. The thing is too that I was told that my college grades are fine! yet since I haven't completed the year yet they can't just take my admission on college grades alone. Basically I'm asking is do any of you have any idea what I can do or if you would suggest an appeal in person or something? I really want to transfer out of where I'm at and its annoying that they acknowledge I'm doing great in college but just haven't been there long enough.

The thing is that the admissions is sort of competitive so there is no promise I'm even getting in once I do finish the year. I guess I'm going to call them tomorrow and see if there is any appeals process in which I can be promised admission upon a good completion of this semester.

Well when I was denied admission at a school I wrote a letter. My situation was different. I asked them to review my application again after my summer grades came through since my college GPA wasn't that great. I did great that summer and after they looked at everything they ended up accepting me. I strongly suggest you write a letter to the head of the Admissions department at the college explaining your situation. Hopefully it will go to committee and will be re-looked at. It never hurts to try. What's the worst they could tell you? No?! They've already done that, so... go for it. Otherwise, just wait it out.

You have to just keep trying and look for other angles or give it up and look somewhere else. are there any other choices?

usually it's easier to get in as a transfer student than as a regular admission, so it may not be as competitive as you think.
are there any other schools you could transfer to that have easier addmission requirements, like a state school?

Try again...right the letter to the head of Admissions, call them, talk to other people in the departments and see if you can do anything more. If you don't give up you'll get in. Persistence always leads to achieving your goal. Oh, and finish the year. You do have more of a chance of transfering if you've had one year at a school. Good luck!
