Broken Left Distal Fibula
Yes, so ice is great - when making yummy alcoholic drinks. Not when I am trying to walk to work. The short version is I slipped, fell, will be in a cast for awhile - and my foot itches like all hell. Any advice on being in a cast - getting around - and not driving myself nuts?

well, can't help you on the itching part. they didn't cast my broken leg. instead, i got a steel rod implanted. so while i didn't itch, i do set off some metal detectors. i'd call it a good trade off. getting around though, first off, i'd say enjoy the handicap sticker! crutches do suck, but they're not too bad. just take it slow as you get used to them, they take a bit more energy to use than normal walking (who's used to having thier arms carry their weight?).
good luck, hopeyou have a speedy recovery!

I broke my Distal Fibula and Tibia in a car accident a few years ago. I was "lucky" that I broke my left arm at the same time, so I didn't have to use crutches. I used a rockin cane.
Your leg/foot will itch. DO NOT STICK ANYTHING DOWN THERE! My dad broke his leg years ago, used a wire hanger to itch it and cut himself up pretty badly. The itching will go away. Just grit your teeth and deal with it. When you get that cast off, your foot will stink pretty badly. And you'll have a forest growing on your legs. If you can, see about getting a walking cast. You probably will towards the end of your cast days. Just take it easy though. If you have people around, this is the perfect excuse to be waited on hand and foot Take it easy, heal up, and feel better soon

Well, that would be nice - cept Livia_Regina is rather...anti-unnecessary movement...and I am NOT going home. Being immobile at home would be worse than being immobile at school.
So I am lucky that I am stubbornly independent - it workes. For the first few hours I stole an office chair from one of the classrooms and used that till I got a wheelchair.
