Europe - Accommodation recommendations
I'm taking my wife and son to Europe for a month at the end of April. Our general plan is to travel from Paris down the Rhone and as far south a Amalfi, Italy, then to Venice and up the Rhine.
I'd be interested in any and all accommodation recommendations for those areas. We aren't looking for amenities. We are looking for "charm" or maybe ambience is the better word. Castles, inns, basement suites - doesn't matter. Budget is 200 Euro per night. Less is even better! Thanks.

While in Italy, stop by Cinque Terra (April should be nice, nobody there). It is a series of 5 small fishing villages built into the cliffs above the Gulf of Genoa (just north of La Spezia). We had a hard time finding accomidations in August, but in Monterosso (nothernmost town) an Italian lady (non parle inglese, non parlo italiano molto bene) saw us and took us to her apartment for rent. Had a kitchen, bathroom, dining room, bedrooms (4 beds) and a baclony. 85E per night (in august, probably cheaper in April).
It was in the southern half of the town (divided by a tunnel) right near a dining courtyard area of a restaraunt. If you want a little more information (I might still have the lady's name, and might be able to find a picture for you or send you a map location) message me.

We spent very little and stayed in some really unique places. For cheapest, pick up of a copy of Lonely Planet's Europe on a Shoestring, or if you can spend a little more, just look for the Lonely Planet Europe. Of course you can get individual country's books, but why waste the money? I have found the LP books super useful throughout my travels. Have a great time, I can't wait to do it again!
