Falling Asleep to Music
I like to listen to music as I fall asleep, but I sleep with my wife and I can't find a comfortable way to listen to music privately. I've used normal sized headphones, but I don't like sleeping on my back all the time. I've used in-ear headphones, but when I lay on my side, they push into my ears and hurt. I've seen pillow speakers at radio shack, but I figured they would be too loud. Does anyone have any advice for me?

Pillow speakers don't have to be too loud. I remember using one myself years ago in a lame attempt to learn Spanish. I didn't learn much but the speaker was muy silenciosamente.

I've got some sony MDR-V300 headphones that are awesome
They go over the ears, but because of the design I can lay on my side and still listen to the music. There are a couple of other models that use the same basic design, I just have this one b/c it was the nicest one I could get w/ my budget. I think for 10-15 dollars more you can get the noise-canceling ones... $65 I believe. They sound great too.

Yeah I use the big ones that cover your whole ear. They aren't really uncomfortable because of the padding around the ear. I sleep to music too when I can't. Only problem I can think of is if you have to hear your alarm clock in the morning you may not if you have it too loud so I don't keep mine too loud when I do use them.
Mine are similar to these but not exactly like them. edit: also the chord can get a little annoying if they have 1...it can tangle around your neck if you toss and turn..which is why I keep whatever I'm playing the music on...in front of or above my head and just throw the cords behind my head so when I do roll they're out of the way. Everytime I go to bed with music playing I wake up like "WHAT THE FUCK OH MY GOD JESUS OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!" for no reason whatsoever. I think the world is ending or something. Very disorienting to me. I would try getting some headphones if you must have it.

i'm not sure, but what you said does make a lot of sense. Sometimes when I dream ,the noises that are happening outside of my dreams enter into my dreams and change them. That and they also wake me up quite often. I'm a pretty light sleeper. If a mosquito lands on my face or something, I usually wake up

Actually I have this problem when I try to sleep my mind keeps on going and thinking about the STUPIDEST things and won't stop so I can't get to sleep. I'm laying there with my eyes closed for like an hour and my mind is like "Gee I wonder what we're gonna have for dinner tommorow" or "I wonder if it's gonna be cold tommorow...if I it is I should wear this combination because it looks cool and it's warm" and just unbelievable nonsense I hate it...and I think "Okay don't think anymore...just stop thinking and you can go to sleep" but when yer doin that yer thinking! haha so sometimes I put music over my ears to drown out my thoughts and I only focus on the song and for some reason I'm able to fall asleep faster when i do that. Especially if I listen to something like Sigur Ros where I can't understand what they're saying so I don't get hung up on the lyrics or singing along to it....Sigur Ros put me to sleep before I know it haha.

I know exactly what you mean. Sometimes my thoughts are so "loud" that i can't sleep. It's like I can't seem to shut my mind off. Although I hear that's almost impossible, because you can't really stop your own thoughts, especially if you're thinking about stopping your own thoughts. It's inevitable, no matter what you do, you're always thinking. I wonder if anyone has gone completely crazy, thinking about this stuff.

i find after long enough i just pass out from boredom when i cant sleep, which is near always. But then the planets need to be inline for me to actually fall asleep, or cough syrup or reefer.
Music keeps me awake ![]() as for headphones whenever i set up my player next to my bed i just turn the sound really low so you can only hear it and if anyone is next to you they can only hear faint sounds. |

I like music when I'm falling asleep, but my S.O. is a white noise man. I plan on getting this when I get home and have to share a bed again.

I think the easiest, cheapest solution to your problem lies within a set of in ear headphones that you already own. If you are just trying to go to sleep and not trying to learn the guitar part or anything, you can just try to sleep with one phone in. If you squirm a lot when you sleep, then you probably wont notice if you lay on it if you fall asleep faster than you can roll over.

I have the same problem with my mind not shutting up. Really the only time I don't sleep with music is when I'm at another persons house... but then again it seems like I sleep better at other peoples houses ![]() ![]() |

I don't know much about airphones but I do know that music is great for the soul, it helps you in so many different ways. Isn't there an alternative that you could use? Lol, I was going to suggest that you go in another room and listen to your music while she sleeps in the other room, but that wouldn't be cool. All I can say is, just use regular head phones, nothing fancy and huge, just those regular ones, those shouldn't be too loud, and it isn't necessary to have the volume up, try to keep it down as long as you can, I am sure she won't hear it.

There is something to be said about people who are uncomfortable being alone with their thoughts. I see all these iPods on people walking down the street, and I see MAJOR psychological issues brewing.
Get used to not sleeping with music playing. It will suck at first, but one thing humans can do well is adapt. |
