Loose Skin After Loosing Weight
This may be on an older thread, so I'll go ahead and apologize if it was...
What's everyone's thoughts, ideas and experiences with having excess loose skin after loosing weight? Is it possible for the skin to tighten and look healthy again without a medical procedure? |
I'm not too sure, but I think so. It think it has to do with the rate of weight loss. I lost 30 pounds over a 2-3 month period. No weird, loose sking flapping around for me.
so say you lose 1-2 pounds a week. that should be a nice rate. BUT, rememeber, exercise has a lot to do with it too. Toning, firming etc. Good luck! |
my cousin lost 50 lbs in about 5-7 months. he had alot of loose skin. after about another month or so, it seemed to 'tighten'. he lost the weight by a lean diet and running every day. i think he said he was doing about 50 miles a week.
at first he did have loose skin, but then as he lost all the weight, he started working out too... i think between the toning and continous running, it helped his skin to fit his body. |
my brother went thru a rapid weight gain because he wanted to get bigger and then he rapidly lost the weight after seeing how big he got. he gained something like 70-80 pounds. he began to run every day until he got back to the weight he was prior. he only ate tuna fish and no fat foods to lose the weight along with running. he looked sickly after losing all the weight. the only loose skin he has now is the love handle area where he just can't seem to get rid of no matter how much he runs or works out. he runs about 3 miles a day on average now.
Sorry, but it may take a while still. If your skin is really loose, you may opt for surgery. |
Thanks for the replies guys... It's good to hear some positives come out of weight loss and sking tightening! =)

The skin eventually shrinks back, but the more distended it was the longer it takes. It cases of extreme weight loss (150+ lbs.) people often have a "skirt" of skin that hangs from their midsection. I think that it too will retract, but it would take a long time and surgery may be preferred at that point.
With this post, however, I don't really know what I'm talking about and going from anecdotes and the Discovery channel. :) |
skin eventually shrinks backs. like people who get their stomachs stapled, it can take 6-12 months.. but their weight loss is drastic. if you're exercising and eating lean, then it should take much less.
