Anyone Else Bipolar?

I was diagnosed 5 years ago as being bipolar. I've always know I was a bit different than most people. After a week under evaluation, it was proven!!

I've accepted taking my meds and I live a normal life. Well, perhaps the occasional manic episode. Anyone else here belong to this special club?

Regards

You know, I've never been proven a bi-polar, but I know I am. One moment, I am high as a kite, and then an hour later, I am sad and depressed.

It's a weird cycle.

You're most likely a "rapid cylcler". My cycles usually go a month at a time. Since I take meds, I stay pretty much out of the depression mode. I'm usually slightly manic, which I thoroughly enjoy...most of the time.

Is there such a thing as a mild bipolar? Something that isn't quite normal but isn't quite bipolar? Some days I wonder about myself...

Have any of you had a history of illigal substance abuse prior to your diagnosis?

I was that way for years until I had a manic episode that landed me in the hospital for 4 days. The total episode lasted a week and I knew the moment it started. Oddly enough, I remember pretty much everything I said during the episode. Up until that point, I'd always been able to muti-task better than just about anyone. There were times though that I just wanted to stay in bed.

I smoked a lot of weed and had done speed off and on. It's pretty much a form of self medicating. Some try to control it that way after they've been diagnosed. That usually doesn't work.

One of my former students was bi polar. Before he came to my class he was a mess - cutting himself, totally out of control, really high and really low. Then in my class he started on meds and was a totally different guy. A really cool guy. He became one of my favourite students and I still keep in touch with him. His mom was worried that the drugs would turn him into a zombie. In the end I think they just turned him into a contributing member of the classroom.

I am. Bipolar I.... I have small highs and lows regularly, like everyone does I suspect, but every once in a while it just jumps off the scale. I would rate this as less than a yearly occurance, but when it happens I get crazy. Not crazy like doing stupid and dangerous things (that's what I do when I'm depressed.) Crazy like thinking I'm a prophet from God or something, (odd because I'm agnostic.)
