How do YOU check your breath?

Just wondering what people's different methods of doing the "breath test" are. Me, I usually lick my wrist, wait about 3 seconds, then smell it. I've heard that's the best way to do it.

Anyone else have any interesting methods?

i usually cup my mouth with my hand, breathe out, and sniff. or better yet, just ask your other half to smell it. that would be the easiest and most accurate.

I agree with jaded, but i usually just keep a stick of gum around.... to hijack this thread... has anyone ever noted a connection between extreme gas and chewing gum?

For some reason, i can kinda tell if my breath smells, like by the way my mouth feels or kinda taste. I dunno, i cant really describe it. Besides, i always have a piece of gum in my mouth when i go out. Ive never really heard of the licking of the wrist technique, ill definately have to not give that a try. Its kinda gross.

I have read that licking your wrist is the most effective method of checking your breath, because most of the germs that cause bad breath are on your tongue.

as for gum chewing and gas - tis true
Quote:
Swallowed air. Air swallowing (aerophagia) is a common cause of air in the stomach. Everyone swallows small amounts of air when eating and drinking. However, eating and drinking rapidly, chewing gum, using a straw to drink, smoking, and wearing loose dentures can cause some people to take in more air. Burping, or belching, is the way most swallowed air - which contains nitrogen, oxygen, and carbon dioxide - leaves the stomach. The remaining gas moves into the small intestine where it is partly absorbed. A small amount travels to the large intestine for release through the rectum.

Exhale into a napkin, then smell it. It's effective and easy to do discreetly since you can act like you're wiping your mouth.

I just know that if my mouth tastes nasty, that means I've got awful breath.
