Kidney stones

Just found out that I have bilateral kidney stones. Good news is that I will be able to just pass them since they are small. Anybody have any home remedies that might help ease the passing?

Lucky bastard. Mine are too big to slip by unnoticed

I don't have home remedies, but general recommendations include:
Drinking 2-3 Liters of water per day to stay hydrated
Drinking cranberry juice

After you have passed the stone, you should continue 2-3 L per/day to help prevent future stone formation.

If you can, strain your urine to save the stones, and then take them to your health care provider for analysis. Depending on the composition of the stone, decreasing your calcium intake (if it is too high, and decreasing it otherwise is not recommended) may help prevent future stone formation.

I am assuming you found out from your health care provider, did he/she prescribe you pain medication? Even though your kidney stones are small, passing them may be very painful.

Found out in the ER this morning. I follow up with my DR tomorrow. The ER said that I could just use over the counter pain meds for this.

Stones are very painful to pass. Drink LOTS of water. Over the counter pain meds might help somewhat, but you might need something a little stronger.

I don't mean to condemn anyone, but ERs see a lot of druggies, so they're loathe to give out strong pain meds. Of the people I've known who passed kidney stones, OTCs were definitely not enough.

BTW, if "cokelvr" is descriptive, I've heard unofficial sources that say excessive consumption of soft drinks can predispose to kidney stones.

Does the shoe fit?
