Acutane...

I recently went on it, and to my understand it changes the way your oil glands produce oil to make a less sticky oil, thats how the doctor described it to me. There are good weeks and bad weeks, and what not.

THe porblem is it drys ur skin up while on it. And more specificly for me my lips. and my lips are really dry and the soultionis of course chap stick and Vasaline Lip therapy, the problem is that these things cause me to break out around my lips, kind of ironic come to think of it...

anyone whose been on acutane that has had this problem and actually found a solution pleae share with me! much apreciated

I remeber how dry it made my face... I never put moisturizers on though...
What about a natural lip balm???

Acutane is a pain and its just something you have to put up with for the 6 months or whatever it is that you're on it. But it's totally, totally worth it. Stick with it.

I agree completely with this. Even though I just bitched about it somewhat in this thread, I still 100% think it is worth it to stick it out. I wish I had, because now I'd probably be even more improved than I got with only taking 2/3s of my total dose.

Go for the Accutane, but make sure you go to all the monthly blood tests and whatnot so they can keep an eye on your liver functions. After my first month they had to back me down to less at a time and a little longer time frame because my liver functions spiked, but everything went down to normal after that. Unfortunately now in college I've started a whole different assault on my liver, but thats a whole different thread!

As for specific advice about the libs drying up advice, i just tried anything under the sun that was chapstick-like but mostly to no avail. Just keep trying different things, something should work eventually.

My lips were very chapped when I was on Acutane. My dermatologist suggested Aquaphor (it's an ointment, but it can be used on the lips) and it worked pretty well. It's often behind the pharmacy counter because it is used as a base for other topical medications, but it doesn't require a prescription.

thank you all, i mite check out the Aquaphor, if my vasaline doens't keep me happy, so far it's doing the job, but sumtimes it's just so damn dry!

Only problem with Chapstick and Vaseline, is it is in of itself very addictive. I was on Accutane 12 years ago, and I have not stopped using chapstick since.

i used accutane and had all the dry lips and face and everything, but that was not so bad, i just used a lot of chapstick for that.
one of the other side effects is problems with your joints. at the time i was in high school and playing soccer. it was not a very good time to have hips that hurt whenever they moved. it worked for the acne, but i had to stop after i had the problems.
