I need to get back in shape!

Alright, after sitting on my ass for the entire summer, I've gotten a bit of a beer gut goin. I havent gained any weight at all, so I'm assuming it's just my muscles that have gotten weaker. :|

Anyways, I'm lacking motivation. I dunno, I just dont feel like going to work out, etc.
What I want to do is spend the next month on a good workout routine, and eating healthier(totinos pizzas gotta go) and I want you guys to help motivate me. :D

And if I end up succeeding, I might post pics of the new me.

I'm on that boat with you.....I should be getting in shape for basic training....but sitting on my ass right now is so much easier.

I would love to see the before and after pics.

i often do a few situps or pushups when i'm bored - waiting for the kettle to boil, during ad breaks. but if you want to lose fat then you should probably be doing something like running a few times a week.

before and after pics are probably a good idea, cos you should see a change and that should help get you off your ass more often

anyway, good luck

Ugh, Totino's pizza is so gooey and shitty, it's terrible! My ex-gf loved this shit too, I can't handle it..

Good luck dude, I'm rootin for ya, find something you like and stick to it!

From what I've seen, just run 4 times a week (although start off at 3 times a week for about
12 weeks) and lift weights 3 times a week for 12 weeks. Then move up on to running 4
times a week, and lifting 4 times a week. It's always alot easier to get motivated if you have
a buddy or ground of friends around to do it with you.

I run with 3 of my buddies, but I usually lift by myself (I'm much more motivated with the lifting than with the running, because my body will becometh muscular and powerful with the lifting, while you don't really notice much with running right off the bat, although it does get you in shape. :)

Few starter tips too:

Do it for at least 12 weeks, you'll really start noticing stuff by then.
Stick with it nearly perfectly in terms of running and lifting, and at least
. work kinda well on your nutrition, but this will come after you get the
. first two down.
Also, don't expect to lose more than 2 pounds per week if you're doing it
. within HEALTHY standards, ie, don't starve yourself!
And trust me, those twelve weeks will go faster than you can imagine!

one thing i've started to like to do is when i'm at work, i'll take random breaks (i'm completely unsupervised) and just go down to the basement and climb the stairs all the way to the top (9th floor). do that a couple of times. it's not going to be any amazing workout since i don't do it for a half hour, but it's a nice little mini workout that burns a little and gets the blood flowing. just little things like that, parking farther away, etc, can help increase your daily caloric expenditure and help you lose weight.

yes, better shape. this is all good advice. fortunately people are creatures of habit, so once you begin the habit of working out even a bit, and feeling better, it should be easier. for me, breaking the bad habits went hand in hand with that: no junk food, no beer (vodka's the way to go!), cut down on sugar, cut down on tv (nothing promotes stasis as much, except perhaps the internet).
having friends does help. you should see if any friends are interested in sticking to feeling better and you might be surprised.
also, i've adopted the don't think just do approach, so right when i get up i begin stretching, yoga, running, whatever. i know i'm over-simplifying, but once you find the will power, basically every aspect of your life will be better. do you still need more motivation?

Little steps are a good start.

Taking refined sugar out of your diet is a good place to begin. Stop drinking soda. Each one of those cans of soda is 120~170 empty calories.

If you go to places like Chipotle or Baja Fresh, order a burrito bowl instead of the normal burrito. That'll cut out a couple hundred calories there.

Snack regularly during the day on fruit. Keep your meals small and frequent to keep your metabolism up.

Good luck.

heh, nah. I don't eat any fast food.
I also drink diet pop. :D

I've done it all before, and got in really good shape, so I know pretty much what it takes to get there. A month should be all i need to get in shape, and then work from there to get in better shape.

Had school today, so wasnt able to work out, but I'll definitely be at the gym tomorrow.
