I have had your cramp sir. I never ever get cramps normally but after drinking i have had the calf cramp you speak of. The pain truely is, pain in a new fashion. I remember the first time i got it it hurt so bad i jumped out of bed not knowing what was going on. I think i even had tears running from my eyes (i've broken my arm and that was nothing in comparision). Sudden pain at night is one strange thing and something you don't expect which makes it so much worse.
I've had it a few times since (again only after heavy drinking) but the first time is the worse time. If you ever get it try to keep calm and apply pressure on (massage it for all you're worth). I think its due to dehydration to i just know i drink water before i sleep now and it hasn't happened recently.

Yes Calf cramps HURT!... I've had a few and there is actually an easy way to get rid of them. You need to pull you toes upward, as if you were stretching your hamstring/calf. Its always worked quickly for me. Afterwards messaging it works well too. But I would have to say having your toes/foot cramp are even worse, its really hard to stretch it out and message it untill it stop hurting. It will also come back really quicky if you ball up your toes or something a few minutes after. I had one last night and it took me 15 minutes to get rid of it.

cramps are the worst especially in the middle of the night....It will wakek you up like nobody's business.....I jump out of bed like it's on fire and walk it off.....usually they happen when I start out too warm in bed kick off covers and then get cold but the water thing sounds like a great idea

Sounds like dehydration to me. Like others already said, lots of water before bed means you'll feel better in the morning.
Although, it may mean you have to get up for a few pee breaks during the night, but I consider that worth it.
