Contact lens becoming blurry
I got contact lenses a few weeks ago, and they're great. But I noticed on Friday that I couldn't see too well all of a sudden. i figured they were in backwards or something and popped them out. I didn't wear them Saturday, and then I noticed the same thing Sunday. It's the left lens. For some reason, it's not working too well. I can actually see better without it.
When I got my contacts, they gave me 6 pairs, on the premise that I shuld change them every two months. So I'm wearing working ones now. But if I don't know what I did, they're gonna be gone by the end of the year. Any thoughts why this happened? |
It took me a couple months to get used to my contact lenses. I found that I would sometimes crack the rim when I removed them from my eyes they would bend in half and there would be a tiny rip. I learned to take them out more gently. You can also use rewetting drops about 30 seconds before you take them out - it softens them up a bit.
Also - have you tried using rewetting drops near the end of the day? My contacts don't always last as long as they say - just the way it is. You can put your contacts in cleaning solution for just a couple hours during the day if they are bothering you - give them a quick clean. |
They weren't bothering me as in being itchy. The lens literally made my eyesight worse. I couldn't see anything out of that eye. And that's my dominant eye.
Maybe I cracked the rim. Who knows. |
If you try another and it works you should be fine. I had a little trouble when I first started. Even felt one was like what you describe and they gave me a replacement. Are you sure they said every two months or every two weeks?
|
I know this may seem obvious but here goes...
Did you use rewetting drops or eyedrops? If so are you positive that they are the kind designed for your type of lens.?? It might behove you to check with your optomitrist and find out if they know of anything you might have done. Also before I got contacts I checked in the Consumer Reports and found out that some of the claims for contacts are way off from the average use. You could check and see if this result is common. |
Am I supposed to use drops before removal? My optometrist said that it was optional, if I was having trouble removing them. The solution that I'm currently using for storage is ReNu brand, which they gave to me. After that runs out, I'm planning to use regular old saline. My mother has used that for years without problems.
I wonder if it might have anything to do with the type of contact lens? I have the soft (hydrophilic) ones, which are also Toric. They're for correcting mild astigmatism. |
are you cleaning the lenses each night?
you need to do more than just popping them out of your eye and throwing them in the case. the lenses will accumulate deposits that need to be cleaned off with a cleaning agent. talk w/ your eye doctor he/she will fill you in on the correct procedures for your particular type of lens. |
I don't clean them every night, but I sure tried that to fix the lens. The stuff that they're being stored in is actually a no-rub protein cleaner. So the lenses theoretically get cleaned overnight. But I tried putting the lens in my hand, squeezing a few drops of solution onto it, and gently rubbing it.

Try dipping the bothersome contact in a fresh pool of contact wash right before you put it on. That has worked suprisingly well for me.
|
You try using saline + enzymes?
|
This happened to me when I first started wearing contacts. Even though it is a "No Rub" formula, rub them a bit before you put them in your eye. Your eye Dr should have showed you how to do this. What happens, particles from your eye, that normally get rinsed out when you blink, can get built up on your contacts. That's why they work when new, but get more blury the more you wear them. The solution breaks them down, but rubbing helps to remove them. I also then rinse them with a bit of saline before sticking them in. Much better.

I buy the Daily wear contacts. Pop em in in the morning and toss em away at night. Simple and easy and the cost is probably similar to the longer wear ones. Oh, my diopter (sp?) is only a -1 though.
|
Are they toric lenses? That is what I had and they weren't righting themselves because I am a half blinker. Long story short I had to go back to glasses. See your eye doctor about it.

Try getting more sleep?....At first it takes your eyes to get used to the contacts and you need to make sure that even when you are taking them in and out of your eyes for small amounts of time which eventualy grow to larger amounts of time that you be sure to get plenty of sleep and rest your eyes for the right amount of hours every night to keep them rested (9 hours of sleep) is good..

Patience, grasshopper. They make no rub because the lenses can't hold up to the rubbing. And the solution will clean them if you shake the case and leave them overnight. Some things work best when you actually follow the directions! Of course, it took me nearly 50 years to figure that out.
Try shaking your case with the contacts and fluid in there. Rinse with new solution before placing in your eye in the morning. If there is still a problem, put them back in the case with moe solution and shake again - then rinse. You also may be putting them in backwards, which can be easy to do with soft lenses. Also, use rewetting drops every few hours during the first year. They will keep your eye relaxed and help the lense retain moisture, which it needs to be clear. You probably have toric due to astigmatism. If this isn't in your dominant eye, you could just go to a regular lense for the non-dominant eye which doesn't give you perfect vision - especially from each eye on its own - but both eyes will still work together well. I go back to another comment made previously: are they really two month or two weeks lenses? The most you can wear a two week is for a month. |
