What are your pets' names and why?
I have two poodles and two cats.
The poodles are girls, Zelda and Stella. Zelda was named for Zelda Sayre Fitzgerald (F. Scott's wife). She was a wild woman and my dog has her personality. Stella was named after Stella Kowalski, and I just love standing at my back door and calling, "STELLAAAAAAA!!!" The cats are 4 months old each, brother and sister. The guy is Wolfie and the girl is Jade. Wolfie's face sort of looks like a wolf. Jade is all black with gorgeous green eyes. All of them are rescued animals. |
Dog = Sooty (yeah, it's unoriginal but I didn't name him)
Cat = Shorty, named by my brother who found the poor little guy all alone on the beach when he (the cat) was only about 2 weeks old |
one cat named Molly, not sure why or how that name came about.
one surviver of a fish called Fish,(this is true) |
I have a dog named Sierra...because it is my favorite name..
I have a cat named Emily, because my Daughter named her.. and one more cat, named Roley from the tractor on Bob The Builder....My Son named that one. |
Well, you have to realize that AKC registered dogs have to have unique names, so they get kind of involved so:
The German Shepherds: Chimanes mia zarifa balaniki Chimanes Contessa Carey Anne's midnight dreamer Carey Anne's Lethal Weapon II And the two mutts have simple ones ;) Tazer because he was full of energy as a pup Winston Churchill because she (yes she) looked like WC as a puppy (ask my wife on this one). |
We have a dog named Biff, a boxer mixed with something else. I don't know why I named him Biff, it just seemed like a good idea at the time.
|
my only pet atm is a fiesty little peachface.
he's called Peeper, because he goes PEEP all the time. i do have a friendly pair of staffies who live near me who are called bourbon and coke. i think that says a lot about their owner. |
My cats names are:
Schnitzel; because she has the energy level of a sausage Mingus; after Charles Mingus and Ming the Merciless from Flash Gordon One Fish: Rasputin; because the bastard is too mean to die. |
Raptor = a leopard gecko. novelty because she was like an inch and a half when i bought her and i thought... raptor is the ultimate predator.... so i named her that.
Lilly = a black collared lizard i named her Lilly because I saw a water dish in a Chinese water dragon bowl and in my mind's eye i saw a pretty lilly pad floating... Mr. Gimp :D = black collared male. his real name is Clayton, i adopted him a bout twwo or three months ago. he is kind of not great off health wise. matter of fact, atm, i'm having to nurse him back to health.... he got sick, almost died.. went blind... but i couldn't put him to sleep... now he is fighting to get healthy again.... so Mr Gimp fits :) i have a huge ass dog named jeb cuz his name was jeb when i adopted him. i have a moma cat named Fred who we found wild living in a shack. in a course of three or so weeks we tamed her a bit and she moved in with us. we thought she was a he and named it Fred heh Simba (dumb name...) is one of fred's daughters. i had a parrot named buddy... fish named after demon princes heheh.. oscars... beelzebub, apolyon, so forth. animals are my life. |
One Husky Malamute Mix named Thule. Why? Well.. that was the name she already had when we adopted her... figured she was too old (5) to go through a name change...
:) |

cat named boots, diff colored feet
|
Ahh... i have a Border Collie named Sassy... and boy does it fit her, a female cat named Biff (long story), a yellow nape amazon (parrot) named Bobo, and a fish without a name
|
Quote:
Back when I used to keep salt-water tanks, I had a gorgeous batfish named Leo. Leo Batfish. One of the roving reporters in "The GrooveTube" had that name. |
Quote:
can you pet them both for me? *dreams about labs............* anyways...we have a horse.an arabian gelding.his name is legacy. he came with the name we bought.scared shitless.if it rains on the tin roof he loses it. he's fun to be around and the kids love him. |
Chloe and Indy the dog. Chloe is named after our friends cat, the best cat in the world by far. Indy named after indiana jones (it was my brothers turn to name our pet :D )
|
Lucy the golden retriever/Irish setter/spaniel mutt - named that when we got her. Probably the reddish brown hair.
Baby (the short haired black cat) when my wife first got her, her meowing sounded like a baby crying. Mikki (the long haired gray tabby/calico mix) head is all tabby striped except on top of the forehead a light brown blotch reminiscent of Mikhail Gorbachev's birthmark. Sonny (the orange tabby) had that name when we got him. The fish (three huge goldfish, one angelfish and two algae eaters) have no names since they don't come when you call them. |
Had a Wheaten Terrier named Pippin and a cockatiel named Aussie.
I got to name a girlfriends fish Wanda, and anothers hampster Huey. |
Our cat is named Mailbox, because that's where we found him.
I don't have a dog right now, last one ran away(or was stolen) since we live in a rural area people see a dog and think its a stray if its not near a house so they take them if they are pretty. |
2 adopted stray cats:
Osama: he's simply a terrorist Cleopatra: she expects to be waited on and demands permission before she is approached. Have to mention the recently departed Zyzzybalubah, a lynx point siamese: that was the word of the day one Saturday on PeeWee Herman and was just too good a word not to use on something. 3 dogs: Taz: Aussie who was already named when we got him Medusa: Rotty named by a neighbor for the wrestler Spock: Bouvy named for his ears Ferets (then and now): Hillary "Rat"ham Clinton, Feret Buehler, Feret Faucet Majors (nic is Spigot) and Newt Gingrat Pygmy goat named Brad. He was a drop-off and named Luke at the time, but the day we got him he kept ramming his head against his temporary barrier. I said it looks like he is saying "Dammit" my kid responded "Janet" and the rest is musical history. A rescued baby robin named Condor because he eats like the giant vulture, and a cockatiel, JW, named after an alcohol counselor of a friend...he likes a nip or two once in a while. I'll leave the livestock and fish out of this post for brevity sake. |
We had a pet Kangaroo. Northern "red". I hit its mom with the car. Went to see if it was dead or alive. Found baby (joey) in her pouch. Grew into a six foot plus Male (Boomer). Used to scratch on the back door to be let in... very cute, very friendly. Named him " Casserole". (As in kangaroo tail stew, or Casserole) But we never ate him! We eventually went north and released him back into the wild. Got some pics of him when he was a joey somewheres. Also had a baby Emu for a while. Named her Ken. (short for Kentucky.)
|
<what do you call them? warrrreagl
Sorry for the late reply warrrreagl, in the order of the post: Neke Tessa Remmi (midnight dreamer=dreamer=REM=Remmi) Riggs (from lethal weapon II of course) Tazer Winnie And that's skipping all the nicknames, which usualy makes a good thread all by itself on dog boards. Forgot the two cats: Zoe' and Mozart. Just good names. I think I'll skip the chickens, rabbits, and ducks. :) |
Our Boxer/Rhodesian Ridgeback is Tie, after Tie Domi..
One cat named Ozzy, cause he is the prince of fucking darkness another cat named Jasmine (wife's call) |
My dog's a German Shepard-Sharpei mix. Her name was Maui when I got her from the shelter. I never could explain why, but I just thought the name really suited her. She has a very sunny, happy, and playful personality and an easy-going temperment. Later, I found out that "Maui" is the name of the Hawaiian god of mischief.
Unsung's ferret is named Snowie. Her name was Smoky when we rescued her 'cause she was a "silver" color. Unsung called her Snowie by mistake once and the name stuck. |
let's see, my three ferrets, kanga, roo and Kali
We got roo first, umm, I don't remember why we called him roo, but kanga, well that's kinda obvious. And my fiancee decided on the name Kali. |
Two dogs, one named mac, dont know why just ended up with it and the other named baby cos he never stops crying
|
2 cats:
small cow - that cat was black with white spots, just like a cow snowflake - that cat's all white |
my families siberian husky is named Sierra cuz thats what my dad picked...
my leopard is Spassvogel... it means Joker in german... i told my mom i got a gecko... and she was like your such a joker... and i was messing around in altavista translator and i thought it was cool.... i have betta fish named twitch... cuz he twitches... and a frog taht doesnt have a name yet... |
Three cockatiels named Korey, Killer and Kelly.
Korey just because we had a history of naming birds with "K" names. Killer because I had joked that if we ever got a female we should name her Killer. Kelly because she was supposed to be my son's bird and he named her. |
One dog - George...he was named that when I got him!
One cat - Sasha...just like the way it sounded. Used to have a fish called poisson (no, not poison) and a frog named Robin (Kermit's nephew) :p and a little shark named Bruce (the name of the fake shark used in Jaws) - he was cool. |
We have a Chow and my wife always names them after cartoon bears so his name is Fozzy.
The cats name is Latte cause she is kind of coffee and cream colored. |
I have a black lab-greyhound mix named Jack after my grandpa, and two cats--Fuzz Bucket (my mother came up with that, I wanted to name her Pickles after Pickles the Fire Cat) and Spud (after Spuds McKenzie, Budweiser dog and symbol of the 80s). We also have a pond full of goldfish all named Gobbles after Timmy's turkey. :)
|
One cat, Juliette, named by the place we adopted her from. We refer to her also as:
Julietta(pronouncing the "j" as a "wh", as in spanish) Whiskers McButtlicker(I was drunk when I came up with it, and my gf teases me about it constantly) Fatty(or Fatass, or Fatty Fatty Fat Fat, etc) she's slightly overweight. Slightly. |
I had a fish called Sushi!
I was quite proud of that! Emphasis on the word "had"...oh :( |
1. Ball python named Montery, girl , named because we liked it.
2. Ball python named No Feet named because she was born without feet:( 3. Dog,mixed, girl , Cuddles 4. Dog ,mixed, girl, Baby 5. Dog, mixed , girl , Roxie 6. Nugget: an Australian Cattle Dog (red healer) named for her color. She usually goes by Boofhead, though.
Pogo: a Sugar Glider (Australian flying possum) named for the comic strip character. Jacko: another Sugar Glider, named for the Aussie footballer. Sadly, Jacko passed away last month. |
Ben = all white Maine Coon kitty cat.
Jake = killer teddy bear hampster from hell. He'll bite anything you stick in front of him, or to the side, or even within snapping distance. Ben camed named, I took him from a buddy when he was 1. Buddy had to get him gone to keep an apt. where kittys not allowed. Jake we got on a whim, is named Jake, because. Well, because it sounded right. |
I used to have an iguana named Iggy. After reading the reptile newsgroups, I think 90% of the people in this world who own an iguana have named it Iggy. At the time I had the lizard, I have never heard that name before and thought I was being VERY original..
I also had two tarantulas named Killer and Deathstar. They would attack and kill anything put into their cages. Pretty cool pets... |
black cat - lakkris - icelandic for licorice
striped cat - bacchus - god of wine beause it's cool |
One black lab named crook cause he tail has a kink in it cause we think the person who own him when he was a couple of months old got his tail stuck in a car door :(
And one tabby cat named iris cause it's a pretty sounding name :) |
Currently I have 2 cats .. One is Shawdow, he is grey and I didn't name him. The other is Mitzy. Not quite sure were that name came from. I heard it somewhere or made it up or something. It just seemed to fit.
|
Two dogs
Cleo- mixed Dalmation, Lab, Blue Heeler- I named her after cleopatra because she demands attention and is beautifully unique. (color pattern) Blacky- mixed Terrier, Doxen, Chiwauwa(I don't think I spelled those right) She's about 15 and my mom named her. Us kids wanted to name her ToTo because she looks like toto from the wizard of oz and my sister's name is Dorothy. But my mom said no. 4 cats Artemis- After the greek goddess- She's black and white. longhair Raven-Black longhair. Already named when I got her from my aunt. My cousin told me she was named that b/c of her color and after some wrestler b/c when they first saw her she was fighting a raccoon. Doesn't sound believible but I've seen her in action. It's rather disturbing. Iris-grey longhair w/ touch of orange. Named after the Greek Goddess of the Rainbow. Sniffles- Calico. Got her name b/c I rescued her when she was VERY sick. Wasn't going to keep her. If I had known that we were I wouldn't have started calling her sniffles. I would have named her after another greek goddess. |
Nocci the cat is short for Nocciola, which is Italian for "hazelnut". Which if you look at her, isn't far off.
Cooper the dog is named for Agent Dale Cooper, the main character in the TV series Twin Peaks. Floyd the cat's name is discussed in the "post pictures of your pets thread". She's named after a storm. All three of my animals are female, and all have at least androgynous names. Think that says anything about their people? :) |
1 guinea pig- emilia
12 gerbils, my sons named only one, gimpy (she's missing an arm) |
Dog - Cotton - Great Pyrenese..when she was a pup, looked and felt like a large cotton ball
Dog - Mushu - Great Dane..when she was a pup, she was all gangly and un-coordinated, like Mushu the dragon from Disney's Mulan Dog - Sammy - Greay Pyrenese..that was his name when we got him Cat - Nawla - loved to bite and kick when being played with, named for Nawla in Disney's The Lion King Cat - Casper - solid white and very friendly. |
Dog (siberian Husky)= Storm. When he was a puppy he would run around the house and just knock stuff over, kinda like a storm blew threw. Plus he used to pee all the time.
|
One Cat - Misty (ask mum)
One Dog - Scooter (see above) One Bird - 'nameless' (Doesn't have a name, just call it bird) |
Oscar, our dog. My lil' bro was a huge Sesame Street fan and it was the first name that popped outta his mouth. We figured, "Why not?"
|
One Rott named Max because he seemed to take to it.
Chani a German Sheperd/ Akita mix - named after Chani from DUNE |
-------------------------------------
Ball python named No Feet named because she was born without feet. ---------------------------------------- yabobo Then shouldn't all pythons be named without feet? Or do some pythons actually come with feet? Just curious. |
BB kitty, cause she is my baby and my kitty.
|
Golden Retriever - Autumn (self explanatory)
Cat - Aleah (my daughter named her) Bunny - Isabelle (again, daughter named her) Betta Fish - Maximus (Gladiator) |
Poodle: John Pierre Montec'
The dog cost $250 it deserved a $250 name. Nuff said. |
I have a bichon frise, named tiffany. I was like 10 when I got her, and the only name I could come up with was tiffany, because of the 90210 girl. i regret naming her that, but oh well she was named after a hot girl.
|
4 Cats
Magellan, Merlyn, Lilly, and Stewart Little 1 Lab-Beagle Mix: Madison Belle |
4 cats
silver/cream tabby Abby Renee (after best friend of 15 years) blonde maine coon Tiffany Katrina (inherited her a year ago) muted tortie Miranda Lenore (after friends daughter) black manx (no tail) Sir Lancelot Michael (after an old friend) I like unique first names, the middles are after people I care about. 1 African Grey Parrot Lucy... she came named that way. Oh! One cat that lives with mom and dad... he needs attention constantly 1 seal tabby point siamese Sebastian Sage |
Spook is my cat....he's black, 16 lbs and silent and scary as hell...
Champ is my dog..no idea why SHE is named champ, but that's what my dad named her... |
Lutino cockatiel is named Rufus. We originally named her Roo, but somehow it morphed into Rufus.
Grey cockatiel is named Jessie. We adopted her and just kept the name she already had. 2 goldfish - Oscar and Stain. My son named them. Who knows what goes through a 4 year old's brain. |
Paq: Spook is a great name for a black cat! I love it!
My cat is a big orange tabby. I named him Simba because Lion King was my favorite Disney movie, and well, he is orange kinda like a lion, sorta. He is far from acting like a lion though, he is a complete mush who loves to be wherever we are and never hides when we have other people over. And he loves his belly rubbed. |
We have two dogs, Luna and Sophie, we got them from the rescue, and that was the names they came with.
As a child I had a dog who we got from a breeder. It's official name was something like SilverDust. My father named her dusty, because he said her paw hair looked like cobwebs. She was a miniture Schnauzer. |
"Rottie" was given a generic name for his breed because he was a rescue dog and he chose not to reveal his previous name. I had hoped it was "Carl." :)
"Gus" was a puppy rescue and his stubborn personality came through pretty quickly. He is named after my father-in-law and a tip of the hat to Augustus McCray of Lonesome Dove. Both masters of stubborn behavior. "Seafarer's Jack" and "Mariner's Liberty" (my newfies) were named based upon naming derivations of their lineage. "Golda" the killer cat from hell was named after the head of state that kicked major butt during the six-day war. She wasn't worthy of the name. |
My first dog's name was Schnookie, no particular reason.
My beagle's name is Jackson (Jack for short), named after Schnookie's father. |
Our cats are Scoop and Frickle. Scoop is a kind of light used in theatre production, and Frickle is a cartoon character creation of my Wife's late sister.
|
Elph, awesome pet names!!! Lady Sage, what happened to the "Moose"?
Oh boy, our very own pets forum *wipes tear* Well, my little girl is SweetPea. I don't know what kind of breed she is and to be quite honest, I am not even sure she is a dog. She's about 50 lbs, mixed black/brindle with a white underside. She also has white paws and a white tipped tail and a white star on her forehead between the eyes. She has big ears that stick up/out so she basically looks like a Gremlin and Stitch (from Lilo and Stitch) but with an ocelots body. Actually, she's pretty ugly, so ugly that she's absolutely adorable. *sigh* The ex and I adopted her little over two years ago from a lady who has a little rescue near downtown LA. She was barely 4-6 months, a shivering, whimpering, crying, limping mess of a puppy all covered with dirt, mud, etc. She may have been hit by a car or otherwise beaten (and if I ever find that person.....grrr!!!). The lady named her SweetPea and when we brought her home we saw no reason to change that because that is exactly what she is. In essence, she named herself. I had originally wanted Fido or Rover or Killer or some other cool macho name but it was impossible. Indeed my little girl IS a "Sweet Pea". She is distinctly average. No Einstein here, no FuFu or other pedigree show stopper. She knows a lot of commands in a variety of languages but can never find the treat when I hide it. She can't seem to locate the tennis ball either. When standing next to beautifully groomed Pomeranians and other show dogs Sweet Pea looks especially scruffy and mangy. She bears the scars from her days on the streets and she will forever walk with a limp but I know that the emotional scars are gone for good. Love, nutrition, kindness and discipline have ensured that SweetPea is the happiest dog/creature on earth. Everyone remarks how happy she looks or that she is smiling. If you meet her, you will be charmed and your heart will melt. The first couple of months were a bit rough with the potty training and adjustments. Crate training was successful and Sweet Pea learned quickly. There were some visits to the hospital because of a UTI and some other gastro infection but I never hesitated to give and pay for the care she needed. She gets good quality food, treats, toys and most importantly, love and attention from me. SweetPea loves to cuddle/snuggle and also likes to play, play, play. Last year while I was in school, she would eat my homework and expensive books (especially the art history ones). Sometimes I think she has been more important in my life than I to her. I suppose that makes her a miracle dog. When I move to a new apartment I will probably adopt another dog to expand our little family. |

Our own pets forum!!!!!!!!!! I darn near peed in my panties when I saw it. In fact I did squeal with delight! |
I live in Japan with two Japanese cats:
Tabi, the Japanese socks with the split toes. He is a tabby on top with white socks. Kuma, Japanese for bear. Like many Japanese cats, he has a pocket of fur and about three bones where a tail would be. Since he doesn't have a tail for balance, and he's a big damn cat (8 kg), he looks like a bear when he walks. They are brothers, and they understand Japanese and English. BTW, here you can buy an American Short Hair in the pet shops for about $1500! |
Two cats,
Jake: a black and white short hair - Nicknames: Tubby (he's 16 lbs), tub-a-lub, Jakey and my two-year-old simply refers to him as 'my boy" Elwood - a brown tabby - Nicknames: fuzzy, bub-a-lub, ellie, kitty under the bed, kitty in the window and kitty in the closet, (he hides a lot) |
Hamster Named Ultra Pee Pee, or Pay for short. Invader Zim fans will know what this is all about. But the poor thing died a while back. Very sad. I miss him still. :(
|
Two cats, Punkin the orange tabby, for obvious reasons, plus we adopted him in the fall, and Sabrina the calico. I dunno. Quadro named her. I think because she was also adopted in the fall, and he was thinking about 'sabrina the teenaged witch' and witches are for halloween and halloween is in the fall and....
Ahem, sorry. They're my cuddle buddies. I love these kitties!! |
I had a dream about Morgana last night...
She was a feral calico manx(no tail) that adopted me. She was so badly abused you really couldnt touch her although when I found her in labor and she had been in labor nearly 10 hours she was all too happy to let me take her to a vet and spend 1200 on a kitty c-section which produced 2 live kittens and 2 dead male ones. Interestingly enough she ran away shortly after her 2 living kittens were given away. Back to the dream. I dreamed she came back to me more than half starved. She ran away 2 years ago though and I am sure shes dead. :( It was good to see her again though even if it was just a dream. |
ohhh, isn't it fun picking out a pet's name? :)
I named our dog "shelby" because it's an english name and I always thought it had a beautiful and playful lilt to it. We adopted a cat and named him "felix" because it meant "happiness" he was our first pet right after we got married and I was so happy we had gotten him, and it fits him perfectly, he's a black and white cat with a lot of spunk. We had a stray come to our door, a tiny tiny little cat who was pregnant, we found homes for all her kittens once she had them and then kept her for ourselves, she is such a sweet kitty, to match her gentle personality and to match felix's name, we named her Fiona. I named my horse when I was only 12. his full show name is CBA Knight Train. I wanted to call him Gus, but my parents insisted I name his some nickname off his full name... hence I called him Trinny. Now that i'm an adult, it's a funny thing to here me call him that to people, but it shows how much he and I have grown together. I'm thinking about getting a second horse and naming him Aspen or something a little more dignified than "trinny" :) hehe and gosh, i'm loving this thread! reading through all these responses is so neat! :) Sweetpea |
Silky Terrier - Kizzy, that was her name when we got her
Veiled Chameleon - Leroy Jines, because she doesn't look anything like a Leroy |

My mother reminded me last night of the allegator that I brought home many years ago. Her name was Rosemary. No, I didn't know the sex of the critter and I chose the least likely name for a gator. :)
|
Two red poodles, one named Ginger (we tried cinnamon but it just didn't work) and one named Lucy - her full name is I Love Lucy. As you can guess, both are named after red heads with Ginger from Gilligan's Island. Also a mcaw named skully - sort of piraty and also from the X-Files.
|
My newfie's name is Picabo. She was named after the skier, but I also liked the phonetic implication that she's a dainty little thing.
|
A chocolate/yellow lab named Xena (she came with it, and she's no warrior nor princess)
A chocolate/yellow-lab-coloured cat named Abby (she came with the name and quickly became our home's current monarch) Cage 1: A green singing finch named Chaunticleer (you should hear him in the morning) A green singing finch named Penelope (who will have none of Chaunty's overtures) Cage 2: An orange weaver finch named The Duchess (who rules the roost) A silver-billed finch named Zeus (who is neither god nor king) A silver-billed finch named Hera (who should be named "Cuddles") A silver-billed finch with no name (the offspring of Zeus and Hera) |
i have a good explaination for my cat's name.
i had a cat named drifter(given name) because he was drifting from houses to houses for food before we took him in...in july, he died on the highway hit by a car. it was pretty sad for my family but he was adopted and an outdoor cat so i wasnt too sad. My neighbour who loves cats was telling everyone about our dead cat. he even told the nice girls at the strip club. Well the nice girls from the strip club thought that story was so sad that they all put money together to buy US a new cat! the stripper who put money named him Mr. jingles but my sister thought that was somehow wrong to name a cat after a stripper. i thought it was cool. so my family calls him Leo(given by the spca) and everyone else call him Mr.jingles. :) |
Orange Julius Cesear, because he looks like the color of an orange julius and julius sounds good after cesear
|
2 dogs-- My wife named her dog Buddy.. gee how creative
My dog's name is D'Artagnan. Ok so there used to be 3 dogs but now there are only two.. He was the only one who wasn't black in the bunch and he just looked like a D'Artagnan. Now I adopted him on St. Patty's day... you would think I would have gone with a Gaelic name.. well I couldn't decide on one that I liked (except for Killian's but he's more of a liquor type of dog ha). |
2 cats
Princess - Who is a total princess, her food can not touch the floor, she's demanding and prissy. And her sister... Pigpen - Who loves to roll in the dirt, get the food from the bottom of the bowl (it tastes better didnt you know) and dig in the garbage. |
I once had a fish named Viceroy Carnagie Fizzlebottom the Third, so named because we really wanted an absurd name for him and we thought he/the name was cool.
My current fish is named J-Beezy, short for James Brown. When trying to come up with a name for him, he was acting rediculous, and it all sort of fell into place. Our dog was named Fred when we rescued him, but I call him bread because it amuses me and he still responds to it. |
Two cats, a grey shorthair named Selina, and a new one just last week, white with tan patches and tiger stripes named Greer. I think the reasons should be quite obvious.
Gilda |
Reading the names brings to mind a young man I know serving in the war and his creative cat name....
General Napkin McKitty Fluff May the kitty dad come home safe. *Salute* |
Raz, Nick, and PorkChop
The cats and three cavies (guinea pigs) in the house now:
The pigs- Erasmus - we wanted a dignified scientist/philospher name, the senior cavy ( he gets called Raz) Nick - short for Copernicus. Very friendly, comes to the fridge to beg, where stands up on his back legs. Albert - for Einstein. Get the drift, here? After he once badly bit me, I wanted to give him away. But a cavy that bites people is not a good pet for anyone else, especially kids. So we thought he could be a snake dinner, fulfill the circle of life, blah blah. So he became known as PorkChop.... The cats' names are for another posting. |
Two dogs.
Samson - 150# Alaskan Malamute - I thought he fit the name Hooty - an 80# shepard/wolf mix - I like tits, but my wife wouldn't let me name her "Hooter" :D |
I have a royal python named Amara. It means bitter, eternal, immortal, steadfast and beloved. And loved the way it fit her and she describes all of them... well minus the eternal and immortal. :p
She's a sweetheart. |
We finally settled on a name for our rescue pup, "Sadie." She joins the other female rescues on the street with an old fashioned name. We have Emma, Molly, Annie, and Beatrice currently. :)
|
Two cats, the girl I named Maia, because I love the name. I kind of thought, if I ever have a little girl, I'd love to name her Maia...now I keep thinking I can't call my kid my cat's name!
My male cat is Leoni, he came with that name but I decided to keep it and it really fits because he is such a little lion! He's quite regal but docile all in one. |

Hamster,Sugarmunch. My late hamster is sugarmouse, and he died and I wished her to have a similar name
guinea pigs, Mufty was named by a friend, andSadie was named by me, after bob dylan 'in search of little Sadie' Hellbunny, my rabbit, was called becasue her name was Snowball when i got her (white rabbit, typical name) but she has been a (much loved) pain in the ass!she is trained to use a tray, so i had her as a house bunny, but she chews things and attacks ppl if you dont cuddle her enough so, Hellbunny! |
Pixel - grey tabby cat with green eyes: Pixel was the name of the cat who walks through walls in Robert Heinlein novels.
Nemo - black kitten with gold eyes: named after a Nightwish song. |
My curent female Siberian Husky, Natasha. I acquired her from a local shelter. I believe her name when I got her was Nikita. There was no major reason I changed it to Natasha other then I liked it better and I didn't want her to have the same name she used to have. As to why I went with Natasha instead of Ann, I give my dogs names from there 'native' country. While I don't know of any huskies native to Siberia, my huskies have always had Russian names. The one I had before Natasha was named Tovarisch and aside from having the Russian name he was also trained in Russian. I stuck with English commands with Natasha as she was probably around 3 yrs old when I got her and already well trained.

Thelma Lou - small part pug, part mini doberman, part other - because when we got her there was a marathon "Andy Griffith Show" on TV Land, and the night we got her, it had the episode where Andy and Barney were on Andy's front porch, and Andy asked Barney where he was going, and Barney said, "I guess I'll go down town and get a bottle of pop, go over to Thelma Lou's and watch a little TV". They played off of that statement for a few minutes, and it stuck in our minds. So Thelma Lou it is!

Even though I have my Ferret Thread...
Ferrets (living & passed):
Infiniti - when we were on our way home from the pet store, she curled up into a ball and we couldn't tell where she began/ended. Echo - we brought him home and he was backing up to go to the bathroom in the corner, we stepped forward to stop him (training him by putting him into the cage) and he "screamed" (it's a loud shreik) and it echoed throughout the room. Mischeif - he was so curious; he would find stuff he wasn't supposed to find and get the other ferrets in trouble. Jester - (my favorite, RIP [see Journal/Ferret thread]) when he was just a baby, I had just brought him home, he would trip over his own paws and then get mad and hop around. It was rather hilarious to watch! Image [Imej] - she was so pretty throughout the years I had her. She originally got the name because she completed our Fabulous Five - IMEJ = Infiniti, Mischeif, Echo, Jester. Symphoni - she was dark and lovely, her voice was almost melodic. Enigma - he joined me last December, and passed in January. He was truly an Enigma...I still haven't figured out what happened and why he died so quickly. Harlequinn - The cage-mate to Enigma, she really looked like the female version of Jester, hence the name. |
