Anybody tried Chaser?

I've been seeing ads for Chaser, a pill which allegedly alleviates hangovers if taken before a good binge. Has anyone tried this, and did it work? Does it affect how drunk you get?

I try to make sure I drink plenty of water before I go to bed, and that works like a charm (and it's free). However, if I'm sloshed enough, I forget to drink the water. If this pill works, then I wouldn't have to worry about it.

You have to keep taking the pill every three hours and you don't get that big of a buzz. It is more for corporate types that have 3 drinks and don't want to feel crappy in the morning. Stick with the water, maybe switch to gatorade. I use tyenol morning relief and that works great if you wake up in the morning and feel you are going to puke.

if it's the pill that was on the new a few months ago, you have to take 1 with every drink and it is quite expensive. that would bankrupt me very quickly

When you drink, you pee, which means you lose electrolytes. That's how your body measures water content. So you drink and pee a lot, your body thinks it is low on water and seals up, storing everything it can.. So, you get cotton mouth and swelling in your brain, which leads to headaches and all the other bad feelings.

Buy a bottle of Gatoraide or Poweraide or some other sports drink - about a quart - and drink this after your last drink. You'll be amazed at what replacing those electrolytes will do.

I just don't get how you can have a hangover after 2-3 drinks. It just doesn't seem to make sense from a biological/body chemistry point of view.

Three glasses of champagne and I end up with a hangover from hell, even if I didnt really get all that "drunk"

Water does wonders for me, I've wondered if these pills work as well

It looks like I'll be sticking to water for now. Thanks for the help, all. And I'll definitely consider having a gatorade before bed, as well.

I take vitamin B complex and vitamin C before I go out, then a multi-vitamin the next morning with my breakfast - which is usually V8 and crackers after a night of drinking. Also, I drink lots of water throughout the night and first thing in the morning. I keep a pitcher and a glass next to my bed for this reason.

Tylenol and alcohol are a good ticket for Liver Damage.

Gatorade sounds like a good idea. I always end up pounding water and taking a couple tylenol before I go to bed.

I don't have a reference, but Acetamenophine(tylenol), has been related to liver damage caused by ODing. This usually happens when people take tylenol with other drugs that also contain Acetamenophine as an ingredient. The FDA does say that when taken in the normal dosage, it is totally safe, so I don't think that the alcohol will have any effect on that. I'm pretty sure Acetamenophine only damages the liver when you take to much of it, I don't think it compounds damage done by the alcohol.

It also warns directly on the label

Alcohol warning: If you consume 3 or more alcoholic drinks every day, ask your doctor whether you should take acetaminophen or other pain relievers/fever reducers. Acetaminophen may cause liver damage.

You should also be able to locate alot of info searching on google.

Yep.... V8 and crackers = lot's of salt. The only thing missing is the potasium and magnesium form of salt since all this is sodium. And all that just equals Gatoraide!

I don't go near Tylenol if I even think I might drink or have in the previous two days. I've read tons on this over the years. Asprin is OK but it could bother your stomach. Excedrin, which is asprin with caffeine, may help as the caffeine open capillaries, also good for lighter migraines.

I tried Chaser a few weeks ago. I wasn't terribly impressed. You take two with your first drink then two more after a couple of hours I believe. Anyway I followed the instructions and when I woke up I wasn't terribly hungover but was a bit "woozy". In fact I was exactly as woozy as I usually am when I drink that amount (about a bottle of wine) no more, no less. I certainly wasn't all chipper and ready to go alike the lady in the tv commercial. I think just drinking plenty of water and keeping the electolytes up works better.

V8 and pretzel sticks are what keep me going. I heard unimpressive things about Chaser when I talked to some of my friends about it.

I don't trust a pill to relieve me of hangovers. Just deal with it. It's not that bad, unless you're an idiot that doesn't know how to control yourself.

I saw these pills (in the beer section of Wal-Mart) and by reading the label decided not to buy them. The box says to take one with every 3rd dink or so, and drink lots of water or sports drinks after you're done drinking. Seems like the pills don't do as much to stop the hangover as the water or Gatorade.

Not going to try it. I haven't drank enough to get a hangover in a long time anyway.

Probably 95% or more of the time, hangover symptoms are caused by dehydration.

The first times I ever drank heavily, it was with a person who had done so for quite a few years but also knew great tactics for staying healthy and recovering easily the next day. The main thing is... DRINK WATER. But here's the thing - don't wait until the next morning, or even that night before you go to bed. You should be drinking water after every few drinks... the exact number is really up to your alcohol tolerance, but I find three or four drinks to be the maximum number of drinks ANYONE should drink before having a glass of water, if you want to stay hydrated and stuff.

If you're drinking during the summer or in the heat, you should have a glass of water after every one or two drinks, maximum. Obviously, in the heat, you sweat more, meaning you get dehydrated faster. Trust me - having gone to Ren Faire in Southern California in the summertime, and drinking copious amounts of alcohol there, I've seen the effects that not staying hydrated can have on people... it's pretty rough.

The gatorade before bed thing is not a bad idea at all either - I typically drink water all night and gatorade the next day, but I don't see how drinking it before bed could hurt.

This is also extremely good advice. Doesn't matter if you don't typically take vitamins or whatever - B complex is great for helping prevent the effects of alcohol poisoning or hangovers.

Trust me, Gatoraide before bed convinces your body that you have enough fluid and it doesn't need to store more - which results in pressure from too much water storage. Try this once and you will be a believer or your money back.

About 50% of Asians lack one of the enzymes that break down alcohol, thereby they get drunk faster and in fact usually don't experience any of the highs and just get naseous.
