Poor poor pitiful me
I spend almost all my non-work time in my apartment. I've noticed that I almost never find friends that way.
I rarely see anything that I'm interested in out in the world, so I don't go out much. Also, there's screaming rug rats out there whose mouths I can't duct tape shut. The net just seems so much safer :) than actually going out, but it's so void :( when you never go out and see the people you've been chatting with. I know that can work, as when I was in the Dallas area, we did that. :D In my current area though, it doesn't work out well. :( And "women"? I've met one woman on-line since I've been here, and that didn't work out very well. No guilt or anything, but not much of use, either. I got some experience and a bit more self-knowledge, so it wasn't a total loss or anything. I've tried going to a few local Jewish singles gatherings. I've got the scars to prove it. Most recently, I was trapped for two hours between a couple of marketting dweebs talking shop. Torture! And I couldn't change seats as that would have confused the waitress even more than she already was. What I want to find is a good way to find single Jewish women interested in science fiction in the western Massachusetts area, but I've been unable to find any local SF groups. :( |
I'm not sure about the sci fi stuff.. but as far as Jewish singles....have you tried speed dating? I have had several friends meet and date some nice girls that way.

Once. Out of 8 or 9 women, none were interested. I've really got to lose some more weight, but I don't think that's the whole issue.

Join a club. If you are in New England, you might want to look into fencing...fencing people tend to be pretty sociable, and it's co-ed. Or maybe a softball team or whatnot.
|
Go to synogue on Saturdays, get involved in social activities within the community.. here where I live, the boston area, there are tons of social gatherings available. Try KI in brookline, ma. They are a reformed Synogue and always have stuff going on!
Good luck. |
Im in a similar position, Sometimes & this is quite sad, I just leave, go walking in the city, for hours, at liest Im not festering at home. I know this city better than the locals. Ive found alot of cool places on my walks, no friends though... yet. I find it theraputic (sp?) I just pick a direction & keep walking till i feel like turning in another. THe longest was about 10 hours on my feet. When I got home I colapsed into bed.
Maybe not what youre looking for but, along with TFP its what keeps me from giving up. Good Luck. |
From the Dan Savage school of advice giving...
Why don't you concentrate more on meeting a nice Jewish girl and then from there see if you can spark an interest in sci fi for her. I'm sure plenty of people (myself included) have no idea what the attraction is, you could show someone the light... On a different note, everyone goes through the lows. Maybe you're in the valley now. I would try to see things for what they are and not let it break your spirit. Sometimes a grey attitude tends to create more grey. (Especially if others are picking up on it.) |

I totally agree with Arock. Put out those good vibes and good things happen! Self-confidence and determination can improve most any situation.
