Florida Vacation.....Canceled..need help..
Here is the short of it............Daytona Beach Sept. 18th, meet some friends and party. Book airline, get resort all set, hurricane about wipes out Eastern Coast. Resort is closed until further notice. Resort staff, "You may want to re-think coming here, it's gonna be pretty bad for a few weeks."
So, here I am calling around feeling like a complete asshole having to ask about status of hotels/resorts while these poor folks are trying to put their lives back together. I figure we can plan for a new week, maybe one in mid October. Call airline, going to be around $120.00 to change the flight, a little steep. "The resorts are trashed, can you work with me a little here maybe?" Lady at airline, "Sorry, there is nothing we can do about that." I only paid $189.00 for the damn ticket and now I have to suck it up and pay to change the date we are flying.....fine, I'm o.k. with that now. No wonder airlines get such a bad rep. damn! So at the risk of sounding like a compete ass-munch I am going to ask anyone out there for some advice. Where should a group of five guys (two of which are bringing their families) go in Florida? We are looking at around mid-October as we have a tiny window in which to work. Nice family style resorts anywhere would do. Disney is in the famlies plans but Ocean is in the rest of our plans. How bad is Daytona? Cocoa? Vero? What is Orlando like in October? Any other places we could head off to? I can not even believe I am asking for advice while another storm is going towards FL. but any little bit would help. I really hope all goes well and Ivan spins out into a trop. storm. |

We just got back from the Outer Banks in North Carolina. Rented a HUGE, very nice house in the Duck area (northern Outer Banks), 4 couples with a total of 5 kids. I don't know what the climate will be like in October, but it was great last week. You might still be able to find a place for next week and keep your original vacation dates. Not necessarily a party area, but a good time with good friends and beach access.
