Contact lens redness
I've been wearing contact lenses for about 5 years now and Im almost to the point where I've had enough with them. Im not sure if my eyes are extremly sensetive or what but I know every single pair of contacts I've ever owned has made my eyes feel and look very unhealthy. Over the past 5 years I haven't even been able to keep up with all the brands I've used but I get the same results with every pair I've tried. It's not so much how they make my eyes feel but more about how they make my eyes look. They just cause my eyes to be very blood shot the whole time I have them in and it makes me uncomfortable to even look people directly in the eyes. I've even had a few of my friends come up to me and ask me if I was high. I notice that my eyes water a lot too and sometimes even enough to make tears run out of them. Does anyone else have this problem with their contacts and or know a good way to get rid of the redness so my eyes will atleast appear to look more healthy?? I've tried a few drops they have out on the market but none really help. I mean they help up to the point where I put my contacts back in and then the redness comes back within a few minutes. Just wonder if any of you all have had this problem and what you done to solve it, Im open to any suggestions or ideas right about now. Eventually I think I'll just break down and get a really comfy pair of glasses or the lazers. Thanks.

You should NEVER use eyedrops that "reduce redness"; this just restricts the blood vessels, which is bad for your eyes.
It sounds like your eyes aren't getting enough oxygen. Have you tried rigid gas permeable lenses? I love mine, wear them 16 hours a day with no issues, and they pass more oxygen than soft contacts. There are also the new 30 day night and day soft lenses; I wouldn't wear them overnight, but they have very high oxygen transmission. |

Holy shit, I hear you. Screw contact lenses!!! I've been wearing them for about seven years and I have yet to find a pair that don't screw up my eyes. The itchy, red, dry eyes... ugh!!!
If you find a magical cure, let me know. Until then, or until I get laser eye surgery, my glasses are my best friend. Good luck! |

I've been wearing contacts for ... 3 days and already hate em
Everyone says I look so awsome in em as opposed to my glasses but its just frustrating. Not really to tough to get em in but something doesn't feel right about em and it just sucks. Half the time their to dry when you try to take em out, half the time they touch the pupil of your eye etc and cause massive pain or some crap. and my eyes just feel uncomfortable constantly from them, not massively but it just feels like I'm almost ... constantly drowsy I guess that kinda feeling? In 3 days I've had 2 people ask me if I'm high also since my eyes are so bloodshot Stigmatisms and hard contacts suck >< |

how many hours a day are you wearing them? what type of lenses are you wearing? contact lenses can limit oxygen exposure to the eye tissue which results in attempting to deliver more oxygen (through blood vessels) to the eye. the result is that blood vessels thicken causing the red look. soft contacts, especially those with a high water content are probably the worst for this. if you haven't been to a good eye doctor (opthamolagist -sp?- as opposed to an optomestrist) do so. most likely he/she will have you lay off the contacts for a week or so and then gradually break yourself back into wearing them for reduced duration and/or different type of contacts

I have the same problem where my eyes get so red it looks like I'm high. And when I am stoned, well, try and imagine. I just try to limit my use of them. If I can do something like mow the lawn or go work out where I really don't need to see that well, I won't wear them or take them out. If I watch a movie or am on my computer for a while, I also always take them out because I'll stare and not blink for a while, and when I do it hurts like a biatch. That's my 2 cents

I used to have that problem, so my doctor prescribed some eye drops for me. The drops worked like magic! It was a very small bottle ($40), but it lasted a good while. I haven't had any major issues since then, but I do get the occasional irritation from my contacts. I'm sorry I do not remember the name of the medicine, as it was several years ago. Ask your doctor to prescribe some eye drops for you.
I've also recently switched to Acuvue Advanced and they seem to be a lot better than my B&L ones. Supposedly they allow more oxegyn to your eyes, which allow you to wear the contacts for longer periods each day. I've been very pleased with them so far. I know what you are going through and it is very frustrating Good luck!

My eyes don't get that red, but they do get very dry. Just a stupid thing that contact lens wearers usually have to deal with.
People think I look cute in my glasses anyway, so I'm all set there

You might try the daily-disposable kind, where you have a new pair every day. It's possible that you have an allergy to one of the chemicals in the solutions you use. My eyes used to ache and the lids turned bright red after the first day of every lense because I couldn't stand the storage solution but now hey are fine.

I used to wear soft lense disposeable lens. I used the extended wear for periods up to 2 weeks. My eyes used to get red than I would lay off the lenses for about a week to give
my eyes a rest. I finally got frustrated with contact lenses that I decided to have LASIK surgery. I now have 20/15 vision and no contacts to buy-it has been two years and I don' miss my contact lenses. |

Been wearing soft lenses for 3 years now and I love them. I use the 2 week (daily) kind but only change them every 3-4 weeks since my doc said that was OK. I keep rewetting drops around and hit them 2-3 times per day. I get red eyes every once in a while and chalk that up to environmental issues. I use the no rub cleaner at night.

The only time my eyes get red if if I was careless on got some dirt or other debris in my eye in the process of putting my contacts in. So, if you're sure that's not the case, stop using them immediately and notify your eye doctor. It's not worth hurting your eyes.

I've been wearing soft contacts for a couple of months and have had no real complaints. The only problem is that sometimes they get a little dry and i have to blink a few times to unblur my vision, but that happens rarely. I find it much more convenient than glasses, with glasses I had to clean the lenses a bunch, was always having the frames get bent a little so they sat weird on my face and I'd have to take them off to play sports. God I love not having to mess with that shit anymore. Pretty much the only thing I have to do with my contacts is put them on in the morning and take them out at night.
