What diseases/viruses can be transmitted through kissing?

Heya everyone.

I had Health last semester, but don't remember covering this..

I am just curious about which diseases/viruses/bad stuff can be transmitted through kissing and kissing alone?

Also, how serious are these ailments, if one were to contract them?

I remember learning a lot about STDs, but that left me curious about what could be transmitted through kissing, and also if any of "them" are serious, dangerous, and furthermore, curable.

Does anyone know of any? I think it would neat to get a list going; and I am more interested in the more dangerous ones, just because that is the nature of my curiosity.

I did a GIS for meningitis and it seems pretty serious.. Is that the worst of the "kissing diseases/viruses"?

Thanks for the replies.

Well the worst possible senario would be:
Someone with bleeding gums, so blood borne and mucus viruses could be passed.
It would include AIDS, Hep A,B and C.....just about ANYTHING COULD POTENTIALLY be passed on.
I said that in capitals to highlight the theoritical reality, but I dont know the actual probability of anything happening.
Be careful what you kiss!

can't believe no one said MONO

matteo101 08-17-2004 10:49 PM

You've gotta realize that when you're kissing someone, you're coming into contact with their body fluids, and what's in them can get inside you. I've lost count of how many colds and cases of the flu I got from kissing my ex. As a survivor of meningitis, I would say that it is one of the more severe diseases, but hepatitis is also another big concern.

whats mono?

TheKak 08-24-2004 06:00 PM

Ive had mono before, its kind of like having a cold....for 2 months! It really didn't effect me much though. I also didn't get it from kissing, I really have no clue how I got it as I didn't share drinks with anyone at all, and was a loser and had no girlfriend to kiss anyway!

EDIT: Mono!

meningitis - would be one....

Meningitis is not a virus!!!
It is inflammation of the meninges caused by bacteria, viruses or in rare situations fungi.

pocon1 09-05-2004 05:26 PM

Depends on what you are kissing...

giantpizzaman 09-05-2004 08:52 PM

im sure there are plenty things you could get from kissing dogs, cats, etc.

if its humans you are kissing,(and i hope you are), i cant of much beyond cold sores (not sure if these are genetic), or mono. not the expert though, i can tell you ive never got anything from kissing anyone.
