Ear Piercing question
This is just a pretty quick question. I left the solution that I used on my piercings at my boyfriends place. Do I need to stop by the mall and get something similar, or will alcohol or something along those lines work?

Anti-Bacterial or Antimicrobial Liquid Soap/Wash (Like Provon or Satin). Use soaps containing PCMX. it has been tested to be more effective against a broader range of bacteria and yeast thean soaps containing triclosan.

When my ear piercings were new, just regular alcohol on a cotton ball did the job fine.. (my ears never turned green or fell off)

unscented antibacterial liquid soap is fine and also sea salt rinses are good for healing too.

Picked up some alcohol at the local Stewarts yesterday. Based on the dust I figure it's been sitting on the shelf for awhile...

Just use a saline solution(regular contact lens solution). I hear antibacterial soaps harm the white blood cells that fix up the damage you caused to your ear by piercing it.

Contact lens solution eh? That's a new one.

i did a lot of research on this when i got my piercing, i was pretty paranoid about it getting infected. i'd regularly clean it out w/ antibacterial soap like everyone suggested (the most reccommended one was the orange Dial liquid soap), made sure to turn the ring so i would get the whole thing and clean out the inside as well. after rinsing, i'd rinse again using a saline solution.
like skier said it's the same stuff for contact lenses, i went to safeway and got the big bulk ones. they look like those old school hairspray cans, HUGE. should be a little stream that you can easily point at your piercing. congrats on the piercing :) |
Antibacterial soap is the best thing for them. Non-Scented! The other best thing is to soak the piercing in a sea-salt / warm water mix.
From what I understand, alcohol is not the best thing for cleaning out your piercings. It can take longer to heal this way because of how it dries you out. I've also heard from a local piercer here that the skin can raise up a little bit around your piercings if you use alcohol or other chemicals to clean them. I'm not sure how true this is, but when I got my ears pierced last year, I just used antibacterial soap, and when I got my other nipple pierced this year, I used soap twice a day, and sea-salt soaks twice a week. No problems came up at all. |
This advice has been really cool, thanks :)

i recommend using castille soap as well as whatever solution you choose to clean your piercing. just wash it out whenever you're in the shower.
