Shaving Chest

Ack I shaved my chest for the first time today :-O That was an experience to say the least lol I'd been debating if i should or not for a while now and well i finally did, i am particularly hairy (damn the german genes to hell) especially on the chest where it seems like a mad jungle lol anyway, figured i'd whip out the shaver and give it a try, i did and 2 razor blades later im bare! lol really isn't all that itchy so far (main words) i feel nude in a sense, having started to shave at the ripe age of 12 and having chest hairs atleast by 13, so i've grown a bit used to having it around and now its all gone, i feel like im missing something lol I guess i like it, will take a bit to get used to i will imagine though! I still feel rather stubbly and such. I think next time I just may go to get it waxed instead. For the rest of you people who have shaved before please tell me it gets less irritated and easier each time you do it? Also, I'd like to get opinions from guys who have both waxed it and shaved it at different times and tell me which they liked better and why please :P!

PS DAMN IM PALE! lol

the first time i trimmed my pubes it felt crazy just because my skin wasnt used to actually feeling my boxers.
i kind of envy the chest hair, i still just barely have a happy trail.

apeman 07-29-2004 03:19 AM

nah but i might take my clippers to my chest hair if it gets much longer ... there's no way i'd use a razor or get it waxed though

i'll let you know how i get on

I dont know about the chest, but I shave my legs for cycling, and the first week was *hell*. Crazy itching, ingrown hairs... Misery. Things calmed down after a week and now its fine, but man, it sucked there for a while.

i heard of shaving legs / body for swimming but cycling?

does it really cut down on wind resistance that much to warrant all the effort?

Ever worn skin tight cycling clothes with lots of hair? It doesn't lend itself to a comfy ride...

Shaving various body parts that don't normally get shaved is fucking, fucking (yes, the double use is warranted) annoying for the first week or so, then it gets easier.
Also, once you get passed the initial trim, you just need to give whever it is a standard shave everynow and again, easy.

apeman 07-29-2004 06:50 AM

someone who cycled a lot told me that they shaved their legs because it made things slightly better if you fell off and grazed yourself ...

i.e.
large graze with no hair - nasty
large graze with matted hair in scab - even nastier

but maybe that was just his excuse ;) he didn't mention chafing from the lycra

sailor 07-29-2004 06:53 AM

There are a whole lot of reasons cyclists shave their legs. Road rash protection (less hair in wounds = better), marginal drag reduction, chafing reduction... The biggest one is just tradition--its just something that cyclists do. It also looks pretty nasty with leg hair popping out from under bike shorts. I do it mainly for... vanity. That leg hair out the bottom of the shorts looks so bad...

Why not wax? Lasts for a good month.

Sidewinder 07-29-2004 10:48 AM

I had my eyebrows waxed and that wasn't bad. I can't imagine having it done to my chest or legs.

Because it would hurt, alot?

chrisg299 07-29-2004 12:23 PM

I dunno if I have a high enough pain tolerance level to get it waxed lol In the long run I guess it's better and doesn't it eventually stop the hair from growing alltogether if you do it enough times?

So do ingrown hairs. You wont have them with waxing.

G5_Todd 07-30-2004 05:20 AM

i hear if you get waxed the more times you do it the less thick the hair grows in and the less you have to do it.....something like it weakings the roots ...i dunno

Mantus 08-02-2004 06:21 PM

Don't do it yourself, atleast not the first few times. Get some one who is knows what he/she is doing. The pain is very bad, but it passess quickly. From what I understand the hair does grow back but it's thiner and softer.

chrisg299 08-02-2004 06:32 PM

Awh thanks for all the info :) Does anyone know approximately how long it takes to get it waxed and how long the hair should be to get it done?

Captain Nemo 08-04-2004 12:56 PM

Ok, my two cents. I lift weights and cycle and I shave everything from the waist up (Ok, genitals also, only south of the border exception). I like the feel of it better and I have been doing it for years. Yes at first it was a pain in the ass, but after a while I have had zero problems. No rashes, no ingrown hairs, nothing, nada, nil.

It is part of my weekly routine so now I no longer think about it.

Would I consider waxing? Nope, no reason to

whocarz 08-06-2004 10:04 PM

I love my chest hair. If a girl doesn't like my hairy chest she can go to hell!

crewsor 08-08-2004 05:51 PM

I don't like long hairs on my chest, but not clean shaven either. I use hair clippers with a short comb attachment and shave fairly close. The best of both worlds.

gonadman 08-09-2004 12:20 PM

We do laser hair removal at my office. If you have some disposable income, laser is the way to go. Permanent hair reduction.

Pays for itself too in the long run in terms of cost and hassle factor

Jay Francis 08-09-2004 04:13 PM

I'm more content with using an electric haircut shaver. It isn't as close as a razor, but you have none of the discomfort, and it works pretty well.

jmad 08-10-2004 12:50 AM

The first time you shave anything, expect some bumps or irritation. The first time I shaved my sack the ingrown hairs made me want to shoot myself. You probably won't have the same problem with your chest as it's much less sensitive down there.

quadro2000 08-10-2004 09:58 AM

The one time I shaved my chest, I used Nair on it. It didn't burn or hurt or anything like that (although it was pretty creepy to watch the hair just wipe away with a washcloth), but I did wind up with a bumpy rash shortly afterward. My dermatologist had to check it out. Not fun.

Delirious 08-21-2004 09:25 AM

Laser hair surgery is an option too.. I did it a few times on my back and neck and it reduced the amount of hair that was growing...
