Question about social programs:
I was recently kicked out of my house. I've been living with various friends for a couple nights at a time. I had a job two weeks ago, but I was let go. I have $50.00 left in the bank and I'm in the process of looking for a new job.
I'm looking for any information regarding social programs that will help me get back on my feet. I just graduated from Highschool in May, and will be attending community college as a full-time student starting in late August. I live in North Carolina, in the greater Charlotte area, if that helps narrow things down. |

That's really, really rough. I wish I had decent advice, but I just don't. Is there any way at all you could get unkicked from the house for the next month? Offer to pay rent? If it was a bad scene, then I understand how that's out. Is there a friend you could crash with for a month, do chores there, some kind of minimum rent? Try to just get some short term crap job, like McDonalds?

Check out "Social Services" in the local yellow pages.
Charlotte Emergency Housing is 704-335-5488 - I don't know what their services are, or their eligibility requirements, but you can call them and find out. Also check out your county services in the blue pages - they should have some emergency assistance programs, or be able to direct you to community organizations that can help Best of luck - my mother went through this: got laid off, ate through her savings and had to get rent assistance, etc., and luckily got a job at the last minute before she would have had to give up the apartment and go live with family. I wish you all the best. Just remember it's only temporary.

I wish I could help, but I'm 18 myself.
Personally, I think you should make amends with your family, unless all ties have just been completely severed. You need help when going to college, expecially when you don't even have a job! Good luck!! |
