St. John's Wort/anxiety question
Anyone have experience with this? I took Paxil for anxiety for 2 days about a week ago and I could not stand it. My hands were shaky, I felt like puking, my anxiety got worse. I now have a prescription for Wellbutrin at Walgreen's waiting for me to pick up, but I'm a bit hesitant after the Paxil.
So, my questions: 1) Anyone w/ experience w/ St. John's Wort? 2) Is there an anxiety medicine designed to take only when you feel panicky, as opposed to taking regularly? I really don't like the thought of getting hooked on any pill. Thanks a bunch. Last edited by anleja; 07-26-2004 at 06:54 PM.. |

1) St. John's Wort? not personally but it's one of the few herbal remedies i'd have any faith in ... think it gets prescribed a lot in germany ... they're better at using herbal stuff than the UK
i've tried welbutrin - i think - cos it's called Xyban over here. I wanted to give up smoking, but it made my heart rate go up and i slept less, so i stopped taking it. wasn't a problem, just annoying lying in bed with your heart rate up - not scarily up, just making it more difficult to sleep. i'm pretty sure it also improved my mood, but i only took it for 2 weeks which isn't really long enough generally i'd be happier doing something like Cognitive Behavioural Therapy where they teach you how to deal with things better, it's got to be an improvement on taking pills. if it's good enough for fairly hardcore disorders like Obsessive/Compulsive then they should be able to teach you how to chill out ![]() hope that's of some use and not too rambling ![]()
