Who else despises Hydrogenated oils?
I remember hearing a long time ago about how bad hydrogenated oils were for the human body, but I never really paid much attention whether or not my favorite foods had the H.O.'s in them. After all, I am in my 20's and I excercise a lot and am in pretty good shape.
Recently, someone I know was telling me about just how nasty this stuff was and so I looked it up on Google. After finding out how much it screws with cellular function and I looked through the ready made foods that I often eat. Here are some HO products that were in my food supply: Pop Tarts, Cheese Its, Nutella, and Goldfish Crackers. Now that I've dicovered that these products have the dreaded HO's I cannot bring myself to eat them. I then told one of my other friends who is a vegetarian about the HO's and he went through his food and found that Quaker Oatmeal had soem Ho's in it, so he will no longer be eating that. Spread the word !!! |
true... here's a decent article on hyrdogenation and trans- fats http://my.webmd.com/content/article/71/81217.htm
but nearly all processed foods have something nasty put in them to make them taste better, last longer or look nicer |

You can't completely avoid them, but you can avoid most of them fairly easily by cooking at home, avoiding most heavily processed packaged food, and cutting out things like margarine and mayo. I do all those things, and I eat a pretty lush diet.
I don't think I deprive myself of anything; when I want to buy candy, a snack, or pastry, I do it in moderation and just spend a little more money to get better-quality products, which are usually made without transfats or too many other additives. |
I've done I recent job at cutting out alot of Trans-fats out of by diet by cooking more at home. Sometimes it's hard if I have to work late. Not really in the mood for cooking then. BUt I get by by making extra and sticking it in the fridge. If I can.
And, not to be picky or anything, but its PARTIALLY-hydrogenated oils that are badfor you. Fully hydrogenate oils (like shortending) don't have those health risks. |
Buy Benecol, Take Control, or Smart Balance instead of regular butter/margarine. If you're cooking iwth it, only use Benecol. Just making that switch dropped my cholesterol 60 points.
