There's very little difference between products for men and products for women -- except for perhaps scent, and packaging.
You might look at some of the Neutrogena line of products. They're fragrance free (so they don't irritate your skin) and depending on what your skin type is (oily, normal, dry -- do guys have combination skin like wimmin do?) they have really good products. You just want to make sure you are using the right product for your skin type.

I'm not sure if it's a wives tale or not, but what you eat can also have an effect on your skin. Lots of junk food might cause skin problems.

Breakouts come from clogged pores, which you have figured out already...
What you want to look for is products that are non-comedogenic -- meaning they don't clog pores (this was a big buzz word a few years ago, I still remember the commercials) What you need to do is read labels... and look for pore clogging ingredients Non Comedogenic Chart I would probably start with the Neutrogena line, as it's reasonably priced and the products are pretty good. Next time you are in the department store, stop by the Clinque counter (they have a mens line, but I don't think theres a difference) and ask for some samples to try it out.

If scrubs are irritating your skin, you might want to just get one of those "deep action cream cleansers". I use the clean and clear ones. I found that the neutrogena ones didn't really help me.
Everyone's skin is different. You should really just try the different creams/foaming stuff until you find one that works. And if nothing works and your acne is *really* bad, you can even go to a doctor and have him give you prescription stuff. Junk food shouldn't be giving you pimples *unless* you're eating a lot of oily stuff and letting the oil sit on your face afterwards...because the oil from greasy foods is not good for your skin. If you're really concerned, you might want to rinse your face off after eating oily/greasy foods and working out so that the sweat/grease doesn't clog your pores and cause pimples. Another thing you should avoid is touching dirty/oily hands to your face. Dirt getting stuck in pores causes pimples.... Oil from your hair/scalp can cause pimples too, so even if you've just washed your hands and then scratched your head, it might not be good to touch your face. And last but not least...don't touch your pimples....and if you do, don't touch any other place in your face. That can help them spread. Last edited by Trisk; 07-18-2004 at 07:25 PM.. |
