Roadtrip to Vancouver
On August 18th I'll be road-tripping with a friend to Vancouver. As of now the plan sounds somewhat like this... I'll be driving from Colorado, and the drivetime is looking at well over 20 hours...
Plan to arrive in Seattle, probably get a hotel that night, and check out the Seattle night-life. Wake up halfway hungover, and head up to Vancouver for a tour of VFS, probably check out the Vancouver night life, and get a hotel there, then the next day go to Whistler/Blackcomb for some mountain biking. These are all tentative plans at the moment, but will need to be solidified soon. I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice. Places to check out, things to do, anything. I'll be leaving early on the 22nd to get back in time for my first day of class. I already read up on border crossing and needing birth cert or passport (good thing had not even thought about that), are there any other details that I should be worried about that I might not have thought about that would be detrimental to the enjoyment of the trip? |
Don't try to bring any firearms into Canada and you should be good to go.
Buy a good street map when you get over the border, it will help...a lot. What is VFS? Enjoy your trip. |
if you're in vancouver, some good places to check out are gastown and granville island! and if you need a tour guide, gimme a call :)

VFS - Vancouver Film School.
Thanks for the info guinnessgurl, I will have to look into those places. I may very well be giving you a call for a tour, but will know more on that as it gets closer. :) |
Go to Wreck Beach, one of the top nude beaches in the world. It's a little bit south of Vancouver.

I"m hittin up wreck beach as soon as it's nice enough when i'm not working! Woot!

I'm down for anything, from a bar scene to a club. The buddy I'll be going with is more of a bar type of a person, and I'm not a big fan of paying out the ass for drinks. Looks like we'll be staying on 6th street, so anywhere within walking distance of there would be great.
Shit... Even a bar with a nice patio on a busy street where you can toss your shittiest "i'm only here for one night and don't care" lines at every nice set of TNA that walks by would be nice. We'll have just driven for 24 hours straight, and while as long as there is something to do I'll keep going, but not sure how he'll be doing. As far as music goes, I don't think I'll be in much of a mood for high-paced or heavy beat music, some rock, punk, local stuff, something other than what I'd hear everywhere else. |
envy you

I'll be heading to Vancouver next week for a conference at the University of British Columbia. Any suggestions from you folks as to what to do for fun up there?

But I'd take a cab up the hill to Chop Suey or Neumos (they're pretty close to eachother) and see what's happening there. They're the best bar/clubs in Seattle, for music and people. If you arrive on the 18th, THIS looks good for a wednesday in Seattle. Have fun! |
Thanks for the info Pulp!!

AHHH!!! Next week at this time I'll probably be driving through Wyoming or Montana on my way to Vancouver!! I'm so excited, and so not ready!!
Can't wait. |
You'll love whistler, lots of activities, tour up the mountain and stuff.
South Van can get a little rough and rowdy. I suggest North Van for fun. This is jsut a suggestion, but you might want to have your brakes double checked before you leave, just to make sure they are in top notch condition. |
Thanks prosequence, yeah, I spent a good time under/around the vehicle last week, replaced the axles (badly torn cv boots), and did other general prep for roadtrip work. I don't want to say everything's all set, cause last time I said that a deer jumped in front of the vehicle we were driving, and I got stuck in podunk Wyoming for two weeks while we waited for things to get repaired.
I can't wait though!! Just gotta survive the next 10 hours of work, and I'm off!!! :D |
I just got back from Vancouver... I'm speechless!!! I loved it! I still have to visit NYU before I make a decision on which school I want to go to, but I am leaning heavily towards Vancouver!
Thanks for all the information, I didn't have enough time to do half of what I wanted to do, but it was a fantastic trip!! |
Glad you had a good trip :)

Vancouver is one of the best cities in the World hands down.
