Your own heart beat too loud

Does anybody else have this problem. Your lying in bed trying to go to sleep and its so quiet you hear your own heart beat and it keeps you up?

Heh, yeah. My boyfriend's beats so hard that if I lay my head down on his chest, my head will actually move.

I actually know what you mean. I am 6'7" so I have a heart the size of a catchers mit and at night I can hear my heart beating through my pillow. Sometimes its relaxing, reminds me im still alive, other times it drives me nuts.

yep, its normal, your not crazy. If someone taps your chest your going to feel it, but if the noise around you is silenced, you will hear it too. Your heart, a muscle that beats inside your chest- same thing, your going to hear it as well. Like hearing a clock tick when its quiet. For me, it goes louder when Im excited or just worked out, even if Im really hot I could feel my body pump.

One thing I remember from my stepfather about 12 years ago when I was a kid was... if you can hear/feel your own heart beating, then its working itself too hard.

This was after he had a heart attack and I guess the doc told him the same thing. Dunno how true it is, but I know whenever I feel mine, I remember him saying that, and I kinda flip out.

Sometimes anxiety can make your heart beat too fast/loud. Anxiety is triggered by night time/sleeping for some people.

Thats what happens to me. I have been dealing with Anxiety attacks and depression and when the anxiety hits. My heart beats so loud. It feels like there is base drum on my bed and the whole thing is moving.
Sleep aids help me to get to sleep now only if they could keep me asleep.

I have nights like this once every few months, usually my heartbeat isn't what keeps me awake though. Its really horrible being the geek that I am, but the light buzz of transformers and most things plugged in make keeps me from sleep. I've had to unplug most everything in my room. Luckily it isn't often but that high pitched humm of the electricity trickling into my idling tech toys seems like a violin player on crack. I enjoy my insanities

I'd get your blood pressure checked. I have high blood pressure and a symptom of this is an occasional loudly beating heart.

I am not worried, I will mention it at my checkup but I don't think the sound of ones heart radiating through a pillow is a sign of impending doom.

Man, I almost convinced myself I was dying the other night my heart was beating so god damned loud.

Seriously, what's with it. The problem is, is that when I'm really relaxed it either doesn't go crazy or I just don't notice it, but it seems any other time (just standing around, or laying down watching TV) my heart is getting 10 kinds of violent.
