For Future Reference...
...I met a girl who was visiting from Indiana on Wednesday, and we hung out every night until Sunday, and we hung out Sunday morning, too. Anyway, not long after we woke up at our friend's house, she started to sorta bent over, put one arm on the couch she was just on and her other arm on the nearby table, and started making sudden movements with her chest; this visual was like a hybrid of elevated push-ups and tryin' to do some air-humping.
I didn't know what she was doing 'til another friend there said the word "seizure" (sp?), then it hit me. Nobody there knew what to do in the least except for one and she didn't seem to know that much of what to do...after she was done shaking and whatnot, they tried to keep her head and body upright for afew minutes, then they told me to go get a spoon. I dunno why, 'cuz they never used it, but they told me to get it. After about ten minutes of care, they let her lay down and she slept for awhile with me and afew others watching over her. What I'm curious of is this: what do I do in a situation like that? 'Cuz if that was to happen again, I'd still have no idea of how to react or what to do during or after the convulsions. I just want to be prepared for another incident like this, because I was feeling guilty for not knowing what to do for her. |
Here are a couple sites to start with.
http://my.webmd.com/hw/epilepsy/hw82...-9531713CA348} http://www.epilepsy.org.uk/info/firstaid.html http://www.meritcare.com/hwdb/showto...ure&sequence=1 And whatever you do, don't put anything, especially your hands, near the person's mouth. They can bite very hard during a seizure and may cause an injury to themselves or you. |
Hmmm well the spoon is to prevent her from biting/swallowing her tongue. My limited knowledge is that you are supposed to lie them down in an area clear of objects that might hurt ie. anything that is hard, rough, pointy, etc. and then just wait it out.
I hope someone with real knowledge can field this one, if I have anything wrong I would really like to know. |
