Animal Rescue Tonight.

About two hours ago my GF and i were out walking when we came accross a dead possum on the road. I live in Australia, this is what a possum looks like if you dont know.
http://www.redkat.de/oz/pics/possums.jpg

Anyway, then we noticed a tiny figure twitching nearby. It was a baby possum with no fur and some superficial injuries to its skin, but seemingly otherwise ok. Seconds later this car speeds up the road at about 4 times the resedential speed limit and skids to a halt. I thought it was possibly a friendly motorist. It was the guy who hit the possum angrily looking for his license plate, which had come off when he hit it. He was super aggresive and his trash female companion just gave us a dirty look because we were trying to save this animal. Seeing the baby possum was seemingly ok, we decided to get it some medical help. We asked for a lift back up tp our place to make a call, the guy refused. I just got back from dropping it off at the wildlife centre. The lady who took it reckons its got a chance. I cant verbalise how much some humans piss me off.

Look at the bright side, at least there is a chance those assholes will be run over by a car one day.

Just as they were about to enjoy their creamy beverage, three flies landed in each of their pints. The Englishman pushed his beer away in disgust. The Scotsman fished the fly out of his beer and continued drinking it, as if nothing had happened. The Irishman, too, picked the fly out of his drink but then held it out over the beer and yelled "SPIT IT OUT, SPIT IT OUT, YOU BASTARD!"

That was very nice and thoughtful of you to help that baby out. And your possums are very cute there! Ours look much more rat-like.

yeah, our possums are much less cuddly looking! I found one with a mangled foot in my backyard a few weeks back and called animal control. He said she (since she had two babies in her pouch) seemed to be ok since the injury had long since healed (just incorrectly), and took her to drop her off at the river.

It won't do any good to get the plates. We saw a car run down a dog and not which is illegal here. We called the cops and gave them the license number and all they did was give us a bunch of excuses why they couldn't do anything.

It's weird seeing a different perspective on possums. Here, they are the biggest animal pest. Some smart cookie brought them over from Australia to start a fur industry but they reproduced so quickly that they couldn't keep the numbers down, and now there's something like 20 million of the fuckers. Needless to say, possums here don't get much sympathy.

Anyway, it's a pity that this one didn't live. You can have some of ours if you want.

At least you know you did what you could for the lil fella. He wasn't unnoticed or forgotten.

It's despicable the attitudes that some people have towards animals. Granted I hunt but I value the food that I aquire and I am careful not to waste any of it. I've found deer poached just to remove the antlers for a trophy and the rest left to rot. What a waste. My mom hit a deer once that nearly totalled our car. I remember her first concern was for the deer as it was still alive but injured. Cars can be fixed and replaces. The life of an animal is not replaceable. As was mentioned - I'm sure Karma will have her way with the man eventually. Karma may come back to you as well I hope, in a much better way. Kudos for caring and trying.

Im not sure how it knocked off the license plate, probably the speed this filth was travelling at (judging by watching him drive). Yeah we have no choice but to live with it, thats the name of the rose isnt it. I have a tall list of pets that have died in my life, each time i tell myself to try hard for the creatures around me that are breathing. 'Benny', that old cat that i have written a few posts about here, had to be put to sleep last week. He was a good friend. I bet his ghost is zooming above pie shops all over the country.
