chest pains
Uh my chest really hurts when I breathe in. It feels like a ton of pressure like I'm trying to breathe through a snorkel while my torso is under water. You know the feeling? Anywho was wondering if anyone knew if this is bad or if I should just wait for it to go away. It happened last night too. BOOYAH
oh btw its mostly around my heart, Im just breathing shallowly so it wont hurt as much |
Your profile doesn't list your age, and you don't have enough posts for me to guess -
any family history of heart trouble? Any pain in your extremities? Had you done any exercise prior? 911-- Emergency room -- Don't pass go, don't collect 200 dollars. You might have pulled a muscle in your chest if you were lifting - but I wouldn't take any chances. |
it could be a muscle problem
it could be heartburn it could be gas or it could be a heart attack getting ready to kill you if you don't get the hell to a hospital right now. Don't dick around with strange chest pains - it's better to cough up the copay at the hospital than it is to take the chance of dropping dead like my grandfather did. . . . |
oh sorry, there is some history of heart problems, but Im only 19 so wtf
I know 19 is a bit too young to experience such problems. I had minor asthma when I was like 9 years old and thats about it. I'm a male at 115 lbs. (yea I know I'm a featherwieght). I think it may be stress related cause I just went back to school starting today and I've been stressed as it is. |
if there's a family history of heart trouble 19 is not too young. Younger than you have had heart attacks.
Stress sounds about right, but still, chest pains are nothing to mess around with. |

it's young, but definitely not too young. I went to high school with a kid who dropped dead of a heart attack at the ripe old age of 15. |

although usually something like that is more of a conginital defect rather than ischemia. |
Its funny, Im 22 and recently went to the doctor because I have the same pains you describe. I got a EKG and x Rays and he said everything is fine. He said maybe I should take a stress test, but I dont have the 500$ for it, besides, i think he is just trying to rip me off.
Whats wierd is that my chest pains started only a few days after I quit smoking. |
i think chest pains are quite common. thing is, they come in different varieties and it's best to be sure yours isn't the dropping-dead kind - go see a doc

I get chest pains on occasion, but mine are very sharp pains that I'm pretty sure are attributed to air/gas getting in the wrong place.
And you said that they were in the general area of your heart. There are lots of other organs in that area too. If it is happening as you breathe, it could be related to your lungs also. If it persists or increases in intensity, I would definitely go to the doctor if I were you. Now, I have also had pain in my chest from a pulled muscle before and that hurts extremely bad too. However, it doesn't sound like you did that unless you left out something about the description of the pain. |
I would venture to guess that its gas as well. might want to see a Dr. just to be safe
|
google "costochondritis"

One way of ruling out heartburn as the pain causer would be to drink a glass of water. The water should wash the acid back down and temporarily stop the pain. If it continues then something else is the problem.
I had wierd chest pains once, went to the dr. office and found out it was my sturnum (sp?). The dr. pushed in on both my ribs and the pain went away instantly. She said it was like joint pain and could've been cause by a change in the weather! |
I had the same sort of problems last year. My family has a history of heart problems so I went to see a doctor right away. Thankfully, it was mostly stress induced and probably some heartburn mixed in. Take things like this seriously, early dectection of health problems is key!
