Cruises
If you ever consider going on a cruise I would recommend Holland America. My husband and I went and had the best time of our life.
The service, food, activities, crew were all excellent and the ship was clean. We talked to other people who had cruised on other lines and only celebrity came up as equal. We went on the Western Caribbean cruise aboard the Ms. Maasdam and hope to go again soon on one of the brand new ships. The ports we visited were Cozumel Mexico, Georgetown Grand Caymen, Ocho Rios Jamaica and a private island called Half Moon Cay in the Bahamas. Cruises are a great value because everything is included in the price except for shore excursions, and drinks.

just got back from a 12 day Princess cruise in the Mediterranean. Barcelona, Monaco, Florence, Naples, Rome, Athens, Kusadasi (in Turkey) and Venice - was really awesome. Princess and Holland America are on a par. I've heard that Royal Caribbean may even be a shade better.

I went on a Holland America cruise too, to Alaska through Glacier Bay area. It was a delightful, clean, comfortable cruise, and I was stuck on a boat.
If you want a wonderful sitting-on-a-boat experience, then go on a cruise. If you want toactually experience the place you are visiting, then use a hotel!

Can someone tell me what a good family cruise line would be?
I know there's Disney but are there any others that are more family oriented like Disney?

From what I have read and heard, Disney is far and away the best family cruise line. Most of the others have childrens programs that are really good. Carnival has the most kids. Holland probably has the least. I spent two hours in line at the Vatican museum speaking to the kids program director from our ship. It was the last cruise on her contract and she spoke highly of the program. She was however looking forward to getting back to Canada after 8 months or so in Europe. It was Celebrity's Millinium. I toured that part of the ship and it seemed really nice. From what I learned, the slightly higher end lines attract families whose kids have a modicum of sophistication. They have travelled some and can behave in a restaraunt. They don't control their parents with whining.
I can not say enough good things about Celebrity. I have enjoyed cruising with them in Europe, the Caribbean, and Alaska. The decor, service, and food are all top-notch. (Well, they are not Crystal or Silverseas, but who wants to pay that much?)

I'd just like to second that vote for the Disney ship, it's the only one in the caribean that is truly family oriented, I used to live on St. Thomas, and I never heard a single passenger, no matter the age, complain about Disney or say they liked any other boat more. Good luck to ya

We had a really good experience on Norwegian Cruise Lines. They're not as family oriented as some other lines, but that worked for us. They use a concept called Freestyle Dining that is much less formal than other lines - you don't have a set time or place to eat; you can choose from several different restaraunts and can eat when you want to.
They also took very good care of us on our trip. We'll be back!
