The Swan Boats in the Public Gardens in downtown boston are incredibly tacky and oh so touristy but ya gotta check 'em out.. I think its about 2 dollars for a ride.
The public garden itself is worth a wander around, it's something like 20 odd acres and it's the oldest botanic garden in th eus. Have a drink at the Bull and Finch pub on Beacon street, this is the original Cheers bar. Faneuil Hall, the Old North Church (Oldest church bells in North America) ,and the Paul Revere House along with Quincy market are all stops along the Freedom trail, if you don't mind walking, it's a nice way to spend the afternoon (comfortable shoes are a must - there's lots of cobblestone and brick streets - which are brutal on some shoes) The charleston navy yard, where the USS constitution is docked is great on a nice day... With the big dig going on -- so much as changed since my school days there, but the parks now are pretty impressive, and the new bridge - that looks like a book turned upside down is very cool.
